Alternator whine from the OGM-1?

Negative. You're sure its coming from the alt? I mean there is a tiny fan that is inside the OGM1 that you can hear if the radio is at 0 volume. The drain from the Nav should not strain the alt..

When I connected my Sirius tuner through the audio input jack, I had a fairly loud alternator whine whenever the Sirius head unit was turned on. I have since changed the Sirius connection to through the antenna and no more whine. It's definately alternator noise as it changes pitch as RPM changes.

Would I put it on the battery cable? Never heard of a ferrite bead. I always wondered what those things were on computer cords lol.

I have had a slight whine on mine too since I installed. I called Walt and he said if I had the original battery that it could be the problem as it acts like an insulator for the whine.

He also said to try to run a ground from the ogm to the vehicle. I haven't tried this yet but I might. Mine is real faint and you really have to listen for it with the radio off while driving.

Put it on the power wire for the ogm

Installed a 4ch amp and I too now am hearing the whine everyone speaks of. Mind you I am hearing this sound through the speakers, not the alt itself. Do you all hearing the sound have aftermarket equipment installed?

Walt gave the same reccomendations to me. Tested my battery and alternator multiple times and it is good. Gonna give the bead a try and then the ground wire. Should I just connect an additional ground to the harness to the radio and the ground to the truck somewhere?

Im not sure im guessing to just maybe take a screw out of the unit and then ground it behind the dash somewhere. If you do this and it works let me kno...cuz I will be doing the same:)

Ferrite beads from radio shack and additional ground had no effect. Gonna research the big 3 mod and see if it could maybe help.

Noticed something else also. There is a high pitched whine even without the engine running. The key in "ACC" mode, the radio down and nothin else going you hear a high pitched whine. It sounds like it is coming from under the relay box under the hood or something. You hear it best if you lay under the truck. I wonder if this is the same noise that varies with rpms that I hear inside while driving? I cant think of any type of pump or anythin that could run with the accesory switch. Ideas?

Since I installed my OGM-1 in the spring I've had the alt whine.....i'vetried a new batt, ran a seperate ground cable from the OGM-1 to the steel of the truck.... Moved wires away from each other and the whine is still there.....it drives me bananas
