Installed Factory Air Box

Yesterday, I got bored and started working on the truck, ended up removing my projector headlights with the halos on them cause I just got plain tired of them, also while I was at it, I decided to put the factory air box back on too. I had or partially have a spectre CAI installed. I ended up leaving the CAI tube installed and had to partially alter the CAI tube bracket so it would fit properly. Other than that, unless it is just me, I think the response is a smidgen better than before. Though nothing seat of pants power. Looks to me as though the stock airbox flows as well if not better than just on open cylindrical cone air filter. The tube on stock air boxes seem to hinder flow IMO but could just be me.

Is the stock air box the same part number for all three engines (4.8, 5.3, 6.2)? If so, then unless you have the 6.2, you can be sure it flows more than enough for your engine. Just noticed you have 2006. What about air box for the 8.1?

yeah i agree.. the stock airbox has plenty of flow.. plus i dont like the way aftermarket boxes look.

not a fan of the way halos look either, unless it came with halos from the factory.

I would think the 4.8 and 5.3 are about the same size, as for the 6.2, I would believe it to be larger but I could be wrong. And for the 8.1.... I wouldn't have a clue, even larger???

The CAI I bought didn't come with a new box but rather a heat shield, probably not a good one since it only covered the filter from I guess direct heat but no top and made of metal so I don't think that it kept out most of the heat but it would whistle lol. Oh, and no the truck def didn't come with factory halo's. At first I thought it looked cool but later on they were more of an eye-sore so I kept the lower housings and just replaced the upper ones with the stockers I kept. I plan on ordering new housings that have a smoked look to them not completely blacked out so maybe I will enjoy those more.

4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 Use the same box. Have all four different engines in trucks at work.

Unless you have a 6.2, there would be no way a stock air box does not flow enough then. I would guess that even a 6.2 stock air box is plenty big enough, but, since it is not the same part number, I cannot say for sure it does.

I personally don't think its the air boxes per say, but the tubes themselves. I noticed on mine it had the chamber of course, but it also has another chamber that routes itself front side of engine. I followed it and it has no exit just a place for air to trap itself. Maybe it is used to build some sort of pressure to push air cause of the big chamber I dont know since I am no engineer.

Ihave been running my 01 with an 8.1 with the stock air box and a aftermarket intake tube for about a year now it seems to get the best throttle response and better mpgs. I did cut a 3" hole in the bottom of the box and used a 22 degree plumbing fitting to scoop air from behind the headlight.
