03 2500HD No start - gear indicator shows 2nd gear

Hey guys,

Hoping someone can help with this. I have an '03 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Gas truck with the 4L80E trans. It was running fine until the other day when I went to re-start it and it will not turn over. The clue is when I turn the key on, the gear position indicator on the cluster moves quickly from "P" to "2" even though the lever is in park. I have cycled power by removing power to the battery, I've moved the gear lever through all the gears, but no dice. I replaced the MLPS (neutral switch) at the transmission, but no change. The cable to the transmission is intact and it is moving the select shaft on the trans, but the display does not change.

There are no stored codes that I can read out with my OBD-II scanner.

Has anyone come across this problem? I've gotten all sorts of suggestions from bad grounds to a faulty ignition switch, but I feel like I'm chasing my tail on this one.

Thanks for any help.

Solved it - looks like after you replace the MLPS the codes need to be cleared (even though there were no codes showing).

Once I did a reset of the computer the shift indicator worked correctly and I could start the truck. Hope this helps someone.
