Western Conventional plow mounting options?

Hey guys, I'm sure as most of you remember I bought a plow truck last year. 89 K2500 with a conventional mount Western. Well its been a slow start this year and even before I've had a chance to push any snow, my truck decided its going to nickel and dime me to death!!!! Up to what year truck can this plow be attached to? Can I mount this setup to any GMT-400 or is there a specific year its cut off at? Any insight is helpful. This way I can start looking for a more solid truck. Thanks guys and gals.

I believe the Federal law is 1994 for hard mounts.

The conventional hard mount western pump/lift assembly and the seperate push bar/blade mount

will fit all gmt-400 1/2 tons.

 

I had a conventional Western set up and swapped it from my 90 to my 94 to my 97

GM 1/2 tons. No new parts necessary (unlike my gmt 800/900s)!

 

If you could find a nice 98/99? gmt-400 your in business!

Trying to mount that rig on a gmt-800/900 will be tough unless you are a good fabricator and

have welding skills.................

 

Not to mention conventional mounts and hard parts are $pendy and hard to find!

I was under the assumption it would fit any GMT-400. JaBradt85 mentioned the federal law of no hard mounts past 1994. Is 94 the last year for a hard mount? I can't seem to be able to dig up anything on it. If any of you guys can possibly find me that info. Cuz I'd really like to pick up a later model GMT-400 and throw it on there.

i really don't know about that. Possibly the laws means no mfr. of new hardmount units?

 

A Western dealer did all my plow swaps so I can assume it was/is legal to install a used

hard mount unit ?

 

Anyhoo I wouldn't worry about it as I still see MANY old hard mount plow rigs running

around here in snow country.

I should prob. ask at one of the snowplowing sites like www.letstalksnow.com/forums

and see if the folks know the law..................
