Onstar Makes Itself Useful

A fine citizen decided to leave his running 2001 Tahoe LT in the drive running this am to warm up while he brushed his teeth...bye bye...Anyway, this was at 0736, and Onstar called me at the station at 1120 and tracked the vehicle to a corner.  I went out there and found it behind an apartment building.  Fortunately no damage, but the thieves did keep Johnson's keys.  Oh well, lesson learned.

ACK!!  Why so long to track the vehicle down?  Can they only locate the vehicle when the ignition is in acc. or run?

Was the Tahoe returned to the rightful owner?

Turned the vehicle over to the owner with no damage.  We didn't catch anybody, the manager of the apartments said he saw 5 guys in a Beretta pull into the lot and peek into the windows of the Hoe around 8 or 8:30, so that means that thing was driven straight over there after the theft more than likely.  Unfortunately we don't have the manpower to sit on the thing all afternoon hoping the thugs would come back to it.

One other use for OnStar.  I just filled up with gas and was heading home from work. Just as I was about to make it into the town where I live, about a twenty minute ride, my check engine light came on. Called up OnStar and they ran a systems check and gave me two codes. Call the dealer and they said to bring it in. The next day I was going back to work and the light went out. Called OnStar again and they said that no codes showed up. I decided to post the codes on here before taking it into the dealer.  Low and behold a faithfull forum member helped me out and explained it all to me. Turns out I just had water in the fuel from filling up. I didn't see the tanker truck so it must have just left the station as I pulled in. That is the worst time to get gas, mixes all the water in the bottom of the tanks as he refuels the station.  So OnStar paid for itself that day.  I occasionally call them just to get my moneys worth out of them.  The emergency call if the air bags deploy is what I like the most. That way if the wife gets into trouble I feel safer that help will be on the way ASAP. :thumb:
