04 GMC 1500 to 03 2500 cluster questions!

What about the 6k tach, i thought they were 5k

They are 5k, the 8.1's have 6k, but I think the gear indicator may be different since they are 5 speed auto's

Dang, I have to ask him tomorrow. Thanks, if it is a 8.1, can it be reprogrammed since its digital on the DIC screen.?

Well it was a 8.1 truck. He forgot all about that. I guess I have to power up the cluster and check the gear indicator. I still would like to know if that can be changed via programming.... Hmm...

I'm don't think that part can be changed. If you want to check it out go plug it in. Pull your bezel and then 4- 7mm bolts and 1 plug. The 4 speed read out is PRND321 not sure on the 5 speed

chawkins6789, I have not had a chance to power up my 05 3500 8.1L cluster yet, but I found several 2005 3500HD 8.1L/Allison trucks for sale online and all their clusters read PRND321.

 

My best guess would be that 4th and 5th in the Allison are nothing more then OD gears, not needed to be selectable through the shifter. 1-3 are most likely the only gear reduction gears.

In my friends '02 Duramax with the 5 speed Allison, his gear selector reads just like a 4 speed.
