skiing incident

Well I went skiing today at Chestnut Mountain in Galena, IL.  I actually only got three runs in because.......I wiped out. :D  I had too much speed at the bottom of the run and caught some $hi!!y ice when I tried to check my speed.  I rolled shoulder first into the hill!!  Oweeey! I got up and tried to control my friend's laughter. ??? Usually, if I fall its the sliding on the butt or side.  This one kinda hurt.  Oh well!  I fell in such a way that I rolled back onto my feet.  Hurray!!  :D But minus one ski..........BOOOOOOOO.  I got my ski and proceeded to the lift with my friend and his dad.

Halfway up the hill (I'm still on the lift) I tell them I'm not feeling too well (light headed) and I'll sit out for a while when we get to the top.  A few seconds later, I'm in dreamland, with my buddies hanging onto my belt and pants......I'm sliding out of the lift.  :0  :0  :0 I come to with my friend's dad yelling (cussing up a storm) at the lift operator......who actually stops the lift with me still dangling 60ft up!!!!!  :stupid: I finally get to the "exchange" zone and slowly slide to a safe spot.  10 ski patrol members come over and ask about the situation and one escorts me to an awaiting snowmobile.  (I don't think I've had so much attention!  :D )  ....by the way....."Where is my ski pole?"

I'm now in the infermary with a sore shoulder.  They start asking me a slew of questions which I respond with Feb 5, 1977/Jan 13, 2002/Rich/George W Bush/Galena Mt/Dollyworld (j/k Kansas :D ).....I'm not sure what the questions were though  ???   :D  I pass all the eye, shoulder, range of motion, and pulse tests....YIPPIE No concussion, broken bones or anything.  :D

No cute snowbunnies came by, none where even my age!! ??? People started asking why I had ice on my shoulder.  I said, "I had to quiet some Packer fans!"  :D (silly 49ers)

Right now, I DEFINATELY know that I have a right shoulder.   ???

I've been carted off too.  Back a couple years at Winter Park in Colorado I turned and caught one of my skis on a little hill of snow left by the snowcat.  It torqued my knee up into my mouth and all I saw was blood on the snow.  Before I knew what happened, I look up and there is a skiing moose standing over me.  Since it was MLK weekend they had a few characters skiing with the folks, the moose happened to be right next to me.  I thought I was fine, but the moose and ski patrol insisted I get checked out in the care clinic.  I got down there, walked in, had my mouth cleaned out.  Some of my braces were messed up (only thing that saved some of my teeth from being knocked out the dentist said) and I had a mouth full of blood, that was it.  Got up to leave, went dizzy, threw up all over the room, and collapsed into the chair.  They said I went into shock and threw up twice more.  I woke up in the recovery room in a bed about half an hour later.  Needless to say, my day was through, and since it was about two PM we all decided to just quit and leave early for the train.  Never threw up again, but I just didn't feel quite right until we were somewhere in Nebraska.  Still got the ski patrol injury report somewhere.

Chestnut Mt. is pretty nice, but for Midwest resorts I like Sundown in Iowa best.  Everything sucks after you've been in the mountains though!

ewwwwwww gross! That doesn't sound too cool.  Possible concussion?  ???  I had a mild one once (playing TOUCH football).  I didn't toss my cookies though.

I used to ski till I tore up my knee real good.  Now the only time I get on skis is when there is a motor and handlebars over them and a track behind them!

Geez, that just makes me want to run right out and go skiing for the first time in my life!  LOL

Skiing is by far my favorite sport to participate in.  Too bad I live in the Midwest where the closest resort is a hill surrounded by cornfields. :D

I really need to get out and go skiing sometime in the next year or two.  Don't know why me and the ole man never go, as he loves to ski.  And its not like we live as far away from the mountains as you do Jp.

What do you know, I can still move my shoulder this morning!  In fact, I woke up on it.  It will probably be tender for another day or two.  ???

Speaking of skiing, any of you skiers ever try Snow-Boarding?

That looks like it would be a bit more fun than the traditional skiing.

I haven't, and really don't have the desire to.

No thanks.  I think the green army guys on Toy Story are cool, but I don't want to walk around like one!  :D  I never was a skate boarder so it would be a totally new experience for me.  I like to roller blade though, which is similar to skiing.  Usually, the roller blading involves more blood.  With the exception of JP :D  :D
