Rear Wheel Drag

After work today I stopped at the store to pick up a few things. As I was leaving, backing out of a parking space, I hear what sounds like a tire dragging on the surface, like it's in 4WD on dry roads turning, then it stopped. I checked to see if it was in 4WD and it wasn't. I went about a block and I heard it again. This time I knew it was coming from the rear tires. I was only a few blocks from home so I decide to drive it home and have a look. While coming up the hill to my house I hear and feel a bang from the rearend. Kinda like the G80 kicking in. I got out to look, everything seemed ok. I drove it around for a few miles and seems to be ok. No more dragging or banging. Any ideas or same problem? It's a 2011 2500 with 3.73 G80. I plan on taking it to the dealer on Thursday. Thanks!

There was a recall done on the rear end about a year ago. I can't remeber eactly what it was. I thinking this might have something to do with it?

I would say the rear end is powertrain so take it in

Was the truck HOT ? I ask cause I'm trying to solve an issues with my 2011 2500 3.73 G80 Dragging/binding after getting off highway from trip. First stop sign from a stop. Had to go to dealer twice in order for me to duplicate it for them. They changed out the fluid. If it returnes I'll go back

Just got back from the dealer. No trouble found. They pulled the cover and changed the oil. It hasn't done it again.

I have also had that happen on my 2011 2500hd. Same thing- dealer found nothing . Has not done it in a while now.

Interestingly, my 02 1500 Gmc started doing the same thing when it was reaching 100k miles. There is a recall for differential cross pin failure but it looks like for the half tons

My 2004 1/2 ton used to due it once or twice a year where it felt like the locker was bound up(stuck locked) then it would clunk and be fine for months. Drove it that way for almost 10 years till a few weeks ago when I got the new one. My dad has my old truck and has had zero issues with the rear. Let the dealer get it on record and drive it till it grenades and then they can find the issue.

Update - Took the truck to the dealer yesterday for the same issue. Every so often I would get a clunk/bang from the rear end. Just got off the phone with service writer and they did find the pin broke!! Now I can't help but think they A - didn't do the recall in the first place like they said they did or B - didn't take the cover off the diff in April like they said they did. I'm not real happy with them right now. They got the truck until at least Tuesday. I'm going to ask them why it wasn't found and fixed sooner. - I'm driving one of their 2014's in the mean time.
