Insert update disc, wait for the new info to download to Hard Drive, remove disc

Thank you for the answer, I guess it is that simple, have you upgraded using this method?

I just updated the Nav Maps in my 2009 CTS. Takes over 3 hrs to complete. setup said 3 hrs 6 min. Have to let vehicle sit with key in accessory position for the update to proceed. If you drive it, the update will suspend and resume when engine is off and key on accessory. The radio and Nav system will not work while update is in process.

Now I do not know if all the Nav systems are the same. As you can see this one is from Alpine Electronics and the data is writen to the HDD disk in my system. I am told but have not seen there are some GM products that the disk drives the system.

You need to purchase a disk ($199), enter a special password you get when you purchase the disk and simple insert it following instructions manual that came with the Navigation System. The disk comes with no instructions so if you don't have a manual then you have to wing it.

My disk also included updates to the radio system as well but not all Nav maps updates will, if there is no update available.

Thats how it worked for me yesterday.
