Transfer case and front driveshaft

The truck is a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS with the AutoTrac transfer case. If the rear gearing is changed, but the front cant be done at that time could the front driveshaft be removed and the truck be driven without issue as long as the truck is kept in 2WD? The owner has never engaged 4WD in the 6 years he has owned it. It also has around 80k on it.

Let's say his wife or daughter, or son(my best friend) aren't the brightest.

Yea but one diff will have 3.73 and the other will have 3.42 if he agrees to do it. I'm going to cover the cost of speedometer change and then in a month or 2 the front swap just to get his rear diff

The NVG AWD transfer case has a viscous coupling that will fail with even a small amount of driving w/ the front shaft disconnected. Also if driving and the rear wheels slip it would be like throwing it into neutral as there is nothing to engage in the front. I wouldn't do it.
