True dual advantage

What is the advantage of true dual comapred to say a single in dual out or dual in single out set up for exhaust? I was just wondering because I am going to get my exhaust done soon and I have a dual in single out (stock) set up on my 6.0l 2500HD. Was just wondering about the advantage of a true dual set up.

My local muffler shop and a guy from Flowmaster both told me that true dual was strictly for looks and wouldn't gain any power. Hope they're right. My 50 series big block muffler should be here today.

No advantage anymore. If anything they will hurt more than help.

I was thinking true duals over a single inlet, dual outlet was for the sound and performance. But if there is going to be a x or h pipe in the true duals, it really wouldn't make a difference anyway. so might as well go cheaper with one muffler.

Only way I would do true duals is if it had either an H or X pipe. Other than that a catback system would be fine.

Have LT headers, no cats, true dual to an x pipe with two CB extremes dumped before the axle. If your going to do exhaust, go all out lol!

Only really matters on highly modified, high revving, high performance applications. Most stock setups are pretty efficient these days.

Yeah, I want something louder, like a 40 series Flowmaster or a Super 10 Flowmaster. Only reason i was asking about that was i have dual in single out stock. So i figured why not just have two side by side and have true duals.

Take your truck to a muffler shop and have them cut the y pipe enough to snake dual pipes to a dual in dual out muffler. Flow masters seem to not last long but magna flows are pretty good! They even have a muffler that's basically an x pipe configuration and its loud. Just unsure of the part number.

i dont see the reason for a true dual exhaust. whats the performance difference between true duals with an x or h pipe and gm's stock setup that uses dual cats to a y-pipe to a single in-single out muffler? the pressure equalization an x or h pipe provides is also achieved with the y-pipe. unless your redoing the entire system from the headers back so you can have straight pipes the whole way (saving a couple bends) i dont see a gain.

had a single in-dual out flowmaster 40, but the pipes rusted off of it after a few years (as did the muffler shortly after) and i was running just the 3" pipe under the cab. not recommended- it was very loud and i lost noticeable performance (huge lack of backpressure). i replaced it with a single in-single out super-44 that dumps under the bed. prefer the super 44 for sure.

I'd guess that if you're concerned about affecting factory performance of the engine, you could merge with a Y and go into a single in/dual out muffler, or use dual in/dual out single (which will probably have an X inside). I'm just of the opinion a truck should have two pipes in the back. Its kinda odd to pull up beside a truck that only has sound coming from the left side. Even some of the newest trucks come with dual exhaust from the factory, so I guess there are others who feel the same way.

I wish GM would take notes from Dodge, and offer a factory dual exhaust. I know it looks pretty cool on the Ram.

I don't know about you, but mine's on the right. Dual exhaust was cool in high school, but now all it is for me is more tubing under the truck. I like the simplicity of one pipe, and I like the stock look because the good sound surprises people. I'll probably cut off the last bend though eventually. Go with whatever floats your boat.

The Corsa with a single tip looks pretty damn good
