Hey guys my next performance upgrade is going to be a cam and I'm just wondering what the overall price of everything will be. Do I have to get new valves, springs, and pushrods? What else would I need with the cam? Keep in mind this is for the 6.2 if that makes a difference in anything.

New springs and pushrods to account for the amount of lift. I would go to a dual spring setup.

Okay, keeping the same valves would be fine then? And will my engine run any hotter? I just put headers in and noticed a slight increase there and I'm just wondering if with a cam it'll cause it to increase some more. Hope I'm not sounding too stupid, just want to make sure I do everything right!

Learn me ...

Push rods as well..?

Been a while since I've gone cam deep into an LS based motor.

But in an ls1/ls6 stock push rods were ok. They bent before valves kissed pistons.

you might see a slight rise in temps. It all depends on how hot of a cam you are going

So probably just springs and go to a dual spring set up? And I'll probably go like and upper mid cam, it's still gotta be somewhat of a DD

Yeah I already had that in mind, the best thing to do would probably be just call the company I'm gonna go with and have them set me up. What are some good cams? I know about Comp and Texas speed, any others?

Comp has some nice out of the box, TSP isn't bad. Both should be able to set you up with correct springs and pushrods. Stall is up to you. For DD status I wouldn't go higher than 3200

Before you call figure out what you want from it so you can tell them.

As far as performance wise you mean?

They will want to know the following:

Transmission model#

Rear end ratio

Tire size

Max engine RPM

N/A or FI (if FI how much boost?)

Purpose (Street/Strip/DD/Towing etc)

Depending on what cam they recommend you might not need new springs and pushrods.

You will likely need a tune to take full advantage of the new setup. (if you go really radical you might need a tune to get it to idle)

Yeah that's what they need. They just need to be able to look up the gear ratios.
