hootersair_spot.jpg Hooters Air Takes Off

"Hooters of America, Inc. announced that Hooters Air has taken two very important steps toward launching its new airline. At 11 AM this morning, a freshly painted Boeing 737, Hooters Air One, rolled out of a hanger at Hartsfield International Airport. The plane features an orange and white paint scheme, Hooters Air graphics and a large owl on the tail, from the famous Hooters Restaurant chain. The plane will be flown to Winston-Salem, where work will continue on the aircraft with the installation of a new interior featuring 112 roomy 35-inch blue leather seats. A second aircraft, Hooters Air Two, is scheduled to begin painting on Monday, January 27th. Both aircraft should be passenger ready by March 1st.

Hooters Air is in the process of receiving approval from the Department of Transportation and hopes to announce its first routes in and out of the Myrtle Beach, SC market within the next few weeks. While Hooters Air is not yet taking reservations for its inaugural flights, it has secured the phone number 1-888-FLY-HOOT, which it expects to activate in a few weeks.

Hooters Airlines will utilize planes and flight crews employed by Pace Airlines of Winston-Salem, NC. Hooters of America, Inc. chairman Robert H. Brooks acquired Pace at the end of 2002 through an LLC that he personally controls. Currently, Pace controls 17 aircraft, including Hooters Air One and Two, and specializes in sports team, corporate and travel company charters. Executives of Piedmont Airlines founded the airline in 1989 following Piedmont's purchase of US Air.

Due to a relationship between Pace and Delta Airlines, Hooters Air planes are being transformed at a facility owned by Delta in Atlanta. Pace has announced that all of their aircraft, including those of Hooters Air, will be protected by a maintenance agreement whereby Delta will support the maintenance crews of Pace with parts, equipment overhauls and personnel training.

Hooters Air 737s will be manned by a flight crew consisting of two pilots (wearing traditional pilot uniforms), three flight attendants (wearing khaki pants and orange Hooters Air polo shirts) and two Hooters Girls (wearing traditional Hooters Restaurant uniforms). The flight attendants will be experienced, certified, and the position will be gender neutral. The Hooters Girls will be restaurant employees who will assist with hostess and food/beverage functions as allowed by FAA regulations.

"We feel we have put together the best possible formula for success for Hooters Air," stated Hooters of America, Inc. Vice President of Marketing, Mike McNeil. "Because Pace is providing the planes and flight crews, we have a proven record of stability and profitability. The maintenance agreement with Delta provides the additional reliability of a 500 aircraft system with a strong safety record. Finally, we add the spark of the Hooters brand name and our 20-year history and proven ability to provide great service and hospitality. Why would you fly any other airline?" said McNeil.

Hooters Air would like to announce routes, rates and schedules within the next month and initiate flight operations before the beginning of summer."

Of course, if they charge as much for their plane rides as they do for their beer, I don't think they will get of the ground.

....What do I mean "if"? Of course they will.

I don't know......Maybe if they serve their hot wings.

Who the #### am I trying to kid...Of course I would pay for it.

Ok…Ok…here is a long response for you MiSdIrEcTeD_1.

I must say that we all have to give it to Hooters for making an effort to break into one of the hardest (no pun intended) industries to get into…The airline industry.  While every other swinging dik is loosing their arse in this industry in the post 9-11 economy, going chapter 11, seeking government financial assistance and scrambling to secure customer loyalty, Hooters seems to think they can make a go of it.  More power to them and I hope they do well as we could all use a lift up. hehe

But on the other hand, as a business traveler I very seriously doubt I would ever book a flight on Hooters Air nor would our corporate travel agency approve as this venture will most likely be suited for charter flights for young frat boys headed for South Beach on spring break and not very economically feasible for corporate travel.  Being a Platinum Elite member of Northwest Airlines it would take more than a skimpy pair of shorts to make me change airlines as I appreciate my first class upgrades way too much as well as the frequent flyer benefits that I receive. (Free vacation trips to Mexico, etc.)

I left my home in CO at 3 am Monday morning to catch a 6 am flight then flew first class to MSP then to MIA.  The flight from Colorado Springs to Minneapolis isn’t too bad but from Minneapolis to Miami, some 3 hrs and 49 minutes later, my body was very thankful of the first class upgrade. I will be looking forward to the same treatment on the ride back home all for a round trip corporate ticket of $719.50.  Seems like a lot of dough but given the fact I had extenuating circumstances that made me book a flight in less than 5 days this is actually a very reasonable fare. It took many miles of my skinny butt riding *itch in row 29E wedged in between fat old ladies with horrid perfume and screaming babies with diarrhea to get to the honor of getting elite status and winning a seat in row 1A.  Now, if National Rental Car would think of more creative ways to keep customers happy than their piss poor Emerald Isle program I would be all set.  (National  sukz)

Speaking of Hooters, I scored a signed Hooters calendar a couple weeks ago when I was in Plano, TX. (Dallas suburb)   It turned out my waitress was the May 2003 calendar girl.  Whoo whoo.  She was a hottie too…not from TX but from a little town on the Minnesota/North Dakota border…so you know she knows how to keep warm..hehe. Got the full scoop from this very friendly little vixen.  Can’t remember her name but I can tell ya when I get home and look at the calendar again…. but I do remember she was a nice blue eyed blond with….you called it…..nice hooters!  I really like the calendar but my wife didn’t see the value in it when I proudly displayed my score to her.  Dunno why?  ???

 Thats the spirit!!!

Larry: I couldnt agree with your outlook on the whole deal anymore... First off, no telling how long it will be before they get enough birds to actually make it a money "making" venture, because right now it is obviously a complete money "spending" venture... No telling if it will make it big or not (hard to predict in this industry) but I would bet that it remains in the background as a small "charter" service, if you will...

As far as the idea, I LOVE IT!!! Those orange shorts make me    :D  :(    :P

BTW, Congrats on meeting the calendar girl...  :flag: Ill take a look at 'er when I get home.

    • There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.
    • drive the truck back to the dealer and complain that the button works.

    • I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.
    • Fuel mileage?  That's all how you use your right foot.  Exhaust will give you sound.   Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping.     If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback.  I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect.  Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode.  Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
