STLMODROPTINE Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Hello! I has a quick question. I installed a set of 100 watt KC driving lights yesterday on my 2011 LS ext cab. The light kit had a really nice wiring kit with fuses and a relay. The main -12v source wire was only around a foot long, so I hooked it to one of the 2 studs on the front of the under-hood fuse box. I've been reading that the stud is for a trailer break controller or something like that? My question is.... Will that stud handle my pair of 100 watt lights? I don't want to overload the system, but I didn't want to run a wire all the way to the other side to the battery. I looked around and couldn't find any info about putting an accessory on the stud. It does look pretty heavy duty IMHO. Thanks!
TexasAl Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 It will be just fine. Don't worry about it. I've done that to several vehicles (including a Chevy truck), and never had a problem.
STLMODROPTINE Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 I saw in another forum that the post should be rated to 40 amps. Anyone else hear this?
waumo1 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 The owners manual shows all the fuses. The larger stud is trailer power and is 40A. The smaller one is trailer brakes and it was smaller, like 20A.
STLMODROPTINE Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 Ok thanks... I'm guessing 40 amp will be plenty.
