Carrier Bearing, U Joint Replacement

Recommended Posts

I just had my carrier bearing and u joints replaced, Now the truck is making a horrible grinding noise when I step on the brake. Feels like everything is shifting forward and driveshaft is grinding on metal

It's not the brakes grinding its definately the drive shaft. Once I step on the brakes, the noise continues even after I have taken my foot off the brake and continue to drive I noticed one of my leaf spring bushings is completely disintegrated and the shackle is rusted through, could that cause the differential to shift forward slightly to push the driveshaft into the carrier bearing?

your hanger bearing IS pressed on the driveshaft ,the yoke may shorten slightly, the frt half of rear shaft is bolted to the crossmember thru the hanger bearing ,rear half has the slip yoke ,,,,either way ,take it back to the guy who did the u-joint and have him tell you what it is

So what you are saying is that the U-joints weren't installed correctly and that would cause this issue?

when a person says "ever since _____ was done ,it does this" you take it back ,simple

its called a comeback,,,,not your problem

not sure what happened ,im not there to diag the problem
