My GMC won't start properly

My 1998 GMC pickup won't start unless I pull the gear selector all the way to me and up very hard while holding the ignition in the start position....the neutral saftey switch has already been replaced so it is not that....anyone have a solution to this?

Have you checked that the trans is actually fully in park? I would first pop the shift cable off of the trans and see if it will move farther into the park position. Park is full counterclockwise
