Truck Body Styles...

Yesterday I was killing time and I stopped at the local Dodge dealership to look at the new Rams.  The lot had just gotten some in and they had about 8 on the lot.  So this got me thinking about various truck body styles and I wanted to see what everyone else thinks.  Here's my thoughts (if anyone cares don't get offended-just my opinions):

1.  New Ram 1500s are beyond dumb-looking.  Dodge ruined a great looking body with the style that ended for model year 2001.  I always liked those-expecially the short-bed reg-cab models.  The front end is over-exaggerated and over-stylized and droops down too low.  Side-note: Dodge did come out with some nice-looking new colors.  There's a slate-blue that I really like.

2.  Best looking style of all (IMO) is GM's new HD series.  The 2500HD reg cab is the best-looking truck to me.  It's not over-exaggerated and looks like a working-man's truck. :D

3.  GM's half ton's look fairly good to me.  Some people say they're too plain-looking but that's the style that appeals to me, personally.  I also like the chrome on the 1500s but I know some of you don't!   The GM stepside reg-cabs are the best looking stepsides in my eyes.  I don't care alot for stepside ext cabs.

4.  Ford's F150 are creepy looking  :0  .  The body just has too many "waves" for my liking.  The stepside reg cab F150s look alot better that the straight sides.  Sorry-I've tried to like the F150's bodies but I just can't do it!  ???  Other than the body, I like F150s, especially the 5.4.

5.  Ford F250s and F350s.  These I like.  If Ford F150s had the same body style-I might be driving one (but I'm happy with the Silverado!).  They have that agressive but hard-working look and the cab rides up nice and high.

6.  Toyota Tundra.  Although I don't care at all for these overall, I do admit the body style is decent looking.  The side-view of these is particularly good.  The grill bugs me a little-looks too "cute".

7.  Ranger's and S-10s tie for best looking non-fullsize, IMO.  The Ranger's are looking a little dated, obviously and I guess this is it for the S10s.  We'll see how these two change over the next few years.

8.  Oh yea...Avalanche.  I like 'em.  Wife love's 'em.  Those definitely are attention-getters.  Unfortunately they're not for me since the bed's a little too small with the window up.  Dang-if these were out last Jan. when I bought the 1500 my wife probably would've talked me into one though! :D

9.  Dakota?  Ok if you need that size truck.  The short-bed reg cabs are sporty looking.  They look like a mini-ram in some regards.

One thing I don't like on any truck or car is when the manufacturer puts a V8 or V6 badge on it.  Gimme a break.  Anybody else feel the same way?  Why not put "auto or manual" or "cloth or leather" if they want to be that way?  :D

Oh well....

A truck has to have 8 lug axles for me.  Don't know why, but those extra two bolts really set a truck off for me.

My order of trucks that I like, all new:

1)GMC/Chevy HD

2)Ford Superduty

3)Dodge Ram 2500

Here is gets a little fuzzy:

4)Chevy/GMC LD

5)Dodge Ram 1500

7)Dakota

The ugly ones, no order here, they all go to the bottom:

F-150

Avalanche

S-10

Ranger

Tundra

My opinion you want? Then, My opinion you get.

I agree with you about the new Dodge completely, it's the "Red-headed stepchild" of trucks as far as looks are concerned.

But the Best looking P\U IMO right now is the Ford SD. Best height, Best looks, best interior (I sat in one at a car show) best in almost everything you can think of.(Keep in mind, I'm comparing it against Pickups)

But the best truck out there is the GM "Medium duty" series (Like the one in my avatar). Best looks of all, and of course, best height. :D

I hope to get hired by a construction crew that has one of them in their fleet of machinery\Trucks. :D

The Ford SD is the best looking overall HD.  Can't beat the awesome trailering mirrors.  The chev HD and dodge are nice too.

The GMC is by far the best looking light duty truck followed by dodge and the ford is way behind.

I personally like the the new HD 3500 and 2500 Chevs... Everytime i see one i just end up staring at it til i forget what i m doing, there a beautiful truck but if i had my choice it would be the 3500..

The only non GM i would buy would have to be the Dakota R/T but only if i was looking at a 2wd pickup.. For 4wd purposes the only truck in or near that catagory for me will always be the Z R 2

I really like the avalanches.. there a new and exciting vehicle that has almost unlimited potential..

I like the light duty fullsizes by chevy/gmc... Our 99 Z71 is a great truck but i d like the extra payload and heavier truck in the HD..

So the order for me is

1. 3500/2500 HD Silverado

2. My ZR2

3. Avalanche

4. Dakota R/T

These are mine for trucks still for sale now (see, that keeps the best looking one in the list!)

1. 94-2001 Dodge Ram, nothing else is even close in looks.

2. Gm 1500's and HDs with decent sized tires on them.

3. GM HD's with the skinny tired look.

4. Toyota Tundra

5. A Tie, the F150 and the new Ram.  I really hate to say that, but it's true.  The more of them I see, and there are lots of them in the Toledo area, the more it's clear that Dodge has lost it's way, styling wise.. :D

I am spilling my guts on my #1 choice so please don't shoot me.

Ford F-350 SRW 4X4

Chevy 2500HD 4X4

Both regular cabs with roof marker lights. If you are going to have a truck, then make it look like one.

He are mine:

1.  F350 SRW SuperDuty

2.  2500HD and 3500 Silverado (the only reason this truck isn't first is because the frame plain looks awful hanging clear below the body and the pathetic tires.  I would place the reg cabs ahead of the F350, but all the others below because of the frame)

3.  1500 and 2500 Sierras

4.  2500 Ram

And the bottom of my list are:

02 Ram, F150 and Tundra

heres mine: (inside and out)

full-size:

1) f-150 - simple design looks good (IMO), clean lines, sport package looks great/ seat design and cloth are great, base model well equipped, controls easy to reach

2) sierra (not silverado) - clean design, chrome fits in nicely, trim is clean/ very well equipped base model, stupid placement of cassette player on models with full center console

3) silverado - clean design on base models, LS and LT have hideous trim/base models poorly equipped with cheap materials, LS and LT have nicer interiors, stupid placement of cassette player on models with full center console

4) Tundra - fairly clean design, too much influence from cars

5) Ram - no comment

Medium/Small:

1) Ranger and S-10/Sonoma tie:

Ranger: looks good on outside, great 4.0 and great 5 speed auto./ seats too low, cloth is cheap, great sound systems

S series: looks clean, 4.3 has pretty good power/cloth and trim is nice, but some of the interior plastic is cheap

2) Nissan Frontier - funny lights, too much black plastic on some models, very weak/ too cramped

4) tacoma - looks flimsy

5) dakota - looks odd, cheap

HD trucks:

1) SuperDuty - looks good, needs better trans to handle more power, needs more power from 5.4/nice interior

2) GM HD - looks ok (GMC is better lookin than chevy), awesome power and trans

3) Dodge - wake me up when we get out of the driveway
