car wash/wax problem??

Recommended Posts

Posted

My truck is all streaked and horrible.

I had it waxed---it looked great.

I took it to the carwash and the damn thing snagged my mirror and stopped, leaving me covered in soap.

I took it to the self serve bay and rinsed it.

I have been through the carwash x 2 now

It sat outside in torrential downpours for 2 days.

It is still streaked and horrible.

Is it the wax causing a problem?

Or is it the damn soap thing even though I rinsed it?

What can I do to fix it? Help!

Hand wash with dawn dish soap. Then apply a good coat of wax to it.

If that dosent work, Clay bar, polish / wax.

What K3 said. If you don't have time for that right now try a spray detailer or spray wax for now.

Avoid washing your car in direct sunlight or on a hot day.Use a soap or detergent product made for washing cars, not dish soap. Dish soap can remove or cloud wax and polish coatings, detracting from the finish of the car. You have need the right materials, including car wash detergent, sponges, washing mitts and microfiber towels for drying at your local automotive retail store.

The soaps used in tunnel washes are pretty strong. Not having it rinsed right away and driving it in the sun baked the stuff on it. What you need is actual agitation to get it off. I would do a normal wash to it. A microfiber wash mitt, two buckets (one with soap, one with rinse water for your mitt) and some shade. Dry it with a waffle weave microfiber towel. If you still have streaking, then you will need to use an actual polish, paint cleaner or all on one product (aka cleaner wax). It might be a good idea anyways.

he has a obvious build up on the wax of soap deposits and wax. Using the dawn dish soap will remove these, and then as I said applying a good coat of new wax will protect the surface.
