The thing is that when you tow 7k pounds your tongue weight is somewhere between 700 and 1000 lbs. That counts directly against your payload capacity (1040lbs on the RAM with air ride). You get two adults and some gear and your over the limit...

My tongue weight is in that window, and I just checked the loaded Laramie and it's really bad at 1040lbs, so thank you for the heads up. Maybe the air-ride won't work for me.

Yup, you are right on. So I'm glad you read into my meaning that I thought payload didn't matter. Payload for loaded crew cab Dodges depending on shorty bed or 6' bed is 1000-1100. GMC is 1700-1800 range. And I wanted the capability to tow a 10K GVW trailer with a mini-excavator on it if I had to in a pinch just around town. No way the Dodge would do it. Looks like GMC wins hands down. Thanks again. Now I don't even have to test drive it. Glad there's smart people on here!

Yeah, the Dodges leave much to be desired in that area. 1000 lbs--four big passengers and a bag of groceries and your "truck" is at capacity....

Stickers can have 3.08 under 'standard equipment' and 3.42 (or 3.73) under 'installed options'.

To be sure, check the glove box sticker or the rpo code.

Thanks...bought one today! 5.3 3.42
