5.7 vortec, 383 vortec or 6.0L

I have a stock 1999 Suburban. I'm wanting something with decent gas mileage and power. I know the two of those don't usually go hand in hand though. I'd like to stick to the 16 mpg i'm currently getting with more hp and tq, if that's possible. Should I modify the current engine and leave it as a 5.7, bore and stroke it to a 383, or upgrade to a 6.0? What kind of numbers would I be looking at with each variation, such as mpg, hp, tq? Thanks in advance for any info.

Well in my 04 with the "high output) LQ9 6.0 and 3.42 gears, I will get 17-18 mpg on the highway. The LQ4 version is easy to find and plentiful. It will have more power than your 5.7 and run smoother. You will have to change motor mounts and get a stand alone computer system like something from Holley or MSD.

Bore and stroke your 5.7. 383 will have way more torque than any 6.0.

The right engine builder can put together a 9:1 compression 383 that will have about 350 hp 430 tq.

You won't have to change anything either.

Or just order up a 383 crate motor. Drop it in - done.
