Front Tire Cupping

I am on my 2nd set of new tires on my 2002 Z71 tahoe that are cupping (scalloping) badly on the inside and outside. This cupping might be related to me cranking the stock torsion keys. After cranking the torsion keys I immediately had the front end aligned. I have had the alignment checked a second time since then as well.

I have read that among the causes of cupping is worn from shocks/struts. I am convinced mine are fine. They are relatively new, they never bottom out, and the ride is good. I also doubt my ball joints are worn out. the front end has already been greased.. I don't have any popping or excessive slack.

My first set of tires were good year wrangler AT's. I have Good Year Dura Tracks now. After about 15k mlies, they are trashed.

Once last thing.. the tires are balanced decently.. they are only more recently feeling out of balance.. so I doubt that is the cause. I'm just wondering if anyone else has taking cupping issues on these trucks.

P.S. It has 170k on it. All original front end components other than shocks.

yeah, you're ball joints are probably bad. Unless they are ready to actually "fall apart" (which is a bad day), you won't be able to tell without jacking the truck up and prying on them with a bar.

Thanks Dan.. I think the whole front end probably needs to be replaced. Might replace the old 'hoe
