I actually just talked to two of my buddies today who are chevy mechanics and they said it sounds like a rod bearing going. but i told them its been going on since i got the truck and that it was getting worst. Then they said that it could be a bad spring in the lifters and to try that first before anything so over y holiday break i am going to check those. I have found some other trucks though that it might trade mine in on.

Yup a rod brg would have already made the engine quit so really doubt it's that. I would still pull starter and check converter bolts, this is easier than checking the lifters.

You can use a long socket extention or a long screwdriver as a stethascope.. put one end to the nub onyour ear.it amplifies and isolates the sounds, hope it helps.

Drain oil. Undo motor mounts and raise engine. Remove crossmember, drop oil pan, now you are looking at the bottom of the crank. Undo all bolts and remove bearings. The install new and reverse.

But first do an oil change and actually look at you oil and run it through a strainer or a painters filter to check for metal also cut you filter open and check it.

thanks for the advice guys ill give it a try when i get home on winter break, i leaning towards the torque converter bolts or a bad spring in the lifters. the more i think about it it may be a rod bearing going but for the amount of miles i have drove it with that noise i am starting to doubt that the bearings are done.

Morning everyone.....my first time on this gm form.......I had the same chirp in my 2007 silverado.....I spoke with a number of gm mechanics and nobody could figure out where the noise was coming from...finally one mechanic recommended flushing my engine, changed to a different brand of engine oil than I had been using for 40 years and added a gm engine additive called EOS (engine oil supplement).....One week later the noise was gone, has not returned...that was six weeks ago....engine sounds great......I believe the EOS product is similar to synthetic oil. There had to be a dirt plugging some section of the engine and it finally cleared. my engine is a 4.8 and I change the oil regularly every 5 to 6 thousand kilometers

thanks for the responses guys I pulled the belts off and ran the truck and the noise was still there so the pulleys and belts are not the issue any other ideas

flush your engine, use a different brand of oil and add an engine additive made by gm called eos....I had the same problem, noise disappeared in a week ....that was six weeks ago
