Changing Order

Has anyone changed and order 1 week prior to going to production?

I currently have the Bose and 6" chrome assist steps slated to go on my SLT Sierra. After I have seen more around I think I want to get the 20" rims. I should be able to get the rims for very little additional cost by doing the following:

Removing

Bose and Chrome Assist Steps

Adding

SLT Premium Package (Includes Bose, Assist Steps and 20" Rims)

Essentially, this is simply swapping the 18" for the 20" Rims. Has anyone made a change like this 1 week prior to their production week? Did it affect your date? I really don't want my date moved and will likely just keep the 18's if the date must move

Anyone have experience with this?

From my experience, the answer is no changes after the order is sent to the factory. If you have a targeted production week then you would have to cancel your order and create a new one to make any changes to the vehicle.

I did the same thing. I placed my order on Monday, 14 Oct and slept on my decision that night. I called the dealer 30 minutes after they opened the next morning and said I would like to change the 18s to 20s on the SLT order, he checked the order and said sorry but GM picked up the order first thing that morning(Tuesday) and it couldn't be changed. I discussed it with the dealer and he said that he could order the 20s through the dealership parts dept and change them out when the truck arrives for the same price that I'd have paid via changing the order.

Your dealer may be able to work with you as mine is doing.

Just went to dealer. Out of luck. I asked about swapping and they said GM Canada does not allow that but I could order through parts department if I wanted. I went over to parts and they quoted me over $500 per rim so needless to say I will be watching ebay for some take off's if I end up not being happy with the 18's.

I have not seen the SLT 18's in person....so who knows. I might like them. Hopefully I will and I can take the money saved and throw it in to some other upgrade.

There are some nice 20"s on Tire Rack for $250-300 each...get the PVA finish not Chrome if you drive on winter roads with salt. I would split the factory wheels and tires to sell. Decent demand for wheels for snow tires and good demand for takeoff tires in most areas or value for trade on new ones. And then you can buy a better tire IMO, Michelin or Bridgestone. Not cheap but one alternative

I had a change of heart within 24hrs of placing my order (early Oct.) and the original one had to be cancelled and a new order submitted.

So I'd say it's too late. A new order would place you back of the line again.

At least wheels/tires can be swapped after the fact. My big change was opting for the 6.5' box instead of the 5.8' box!! (that would have been hard to change after the fact! :D).

Any of you guys had any luck changing an order that is sitting at 1100? Jennifer from GM customer service was kind enough to give me the build sheet as I was curious if it would have the power sliding rear window (it doesn't appear to) which is fine by me.

But it appears that they missed one very important option which cannot be added after the fact (camper mirrors). With an 8'6" wide trailer they are a necessity and GM has a PI about them indicating the doors are reinforced and they do not advise adding them to the standard mirror equipped door after the fact. Really hoping I they don't have to start over.

You have to like it when people are on top of things. I shot a message off to my Buddy who is my salesman last night who in turn was messaging his inventory manager. This all happened after hours mind you. I got a call at 9:00am today that they got it handled and he was holding the revised order in his hands.

Go figure going to the camper mirrors is a no cost option on the LTZ which is how his inventory manager missed it when he put the order in the system originally. I had went through the ordering system step by step with my buddy but he in turn handed it off to the inventory manager who put it in the system.

I am just glad it is fixed now.
