Stuck drivers side door

Hey guys, my drivers side door will not open from the outside as we'll as inside. I know the door latch is broken my question is how do I open the door? I'm unable to take the door panel off with the door shut. I busted the outer door handle and was able to inspect the door latch. All linkage is in tact and all levers are functioning. It's just not unlatching from door striker. Thought I'd ask on here if anyone had an idea what to try before I take a saws all and cut the striker between door edge and cab.

Any locksmith can open it up without damage. You're in Alaska, most of the taxi cabs in town can do it also.

I tried a tow driver but he had no clue. I ended up destroying the latch mechanism and was able to lift the latch and open the door. The door took a beating. Chevy doors!! Not my fav. Thanks for the reply man

I took a large flat blade screw driver and slowly chipped away all the plastic around the lock. That was a pain. Wasn't exactly what I wanted to do but was better than taking a saws all to the striker bolt and destroy my paint

Just have to hope my linkage is okay and everything will align right and in the end have a functioning door. I wasn't exactly careful when trying to open the door my frustration got the best of the door panel :/. But.....it's open, $180 for the latch mechanism from chevy of south anchorage. Spendy part !!$$

Did you check with Sales and Service for pricing also? The two dealers very on pricing big time, no ryme or reason but one is cheaper than the other and never the same dealer.

I haven't. I've had my truck in south chevy many times so I've just stuck with them. Next time I need a part ill compare prices with sales and service. Alls I know is 70% of the time the service and bill I got from south chevy I wasn't to pleased. I called two different times on pricing the door latch mechanism and two of the parts counter guys gave me different prices for the part.

That is why I mentioned checking around. The parts managers at both dealers can cut you a better deal than a regular counter guy/gal. I'm amazed how much the price varies when they are only a few miles apart, so if they give a good quote on the phone ask them to put the part in Will Call for you with the invoice attached.
