Silverado 1500 vs GMC 1500

Hello! My last truck was a 96 base model cheyenne with a mad lift which i trashed in the hills near my house last summer. ever since, I've been borrowing my brothers ride to get to places trying to save up enough deniro for a new girl. Anyways, I was totally set on purchasing a new silverado but the new model they came out with hasnt grown on me yet. Silverado has been my #1 choice ever since i was concepted but now I really dont know. Just started researching the sierra 1500 ext cab short bed sle 4X4. Not too bad but pretty #### expensive. I cant seem to find any low end 4X4 without all the yuppie addons! One dealer basically told me he could never find one and walked away. WHAT!? so been pretty depressed at these failed attempts to get my hands on a new pickup.

Bottom line: should i go for the silverado and hope it grows on me or keep on trekkin for the sierra? MAN I WISH I LIKED THE NEW SILVERADO MODELS.

your opinions are greatly appreciated.! :thumb:

Well, it's all down to what you like. Personally, I prefer the Silverado now that I'm used to it. It just looks more like a truck to me. Also, and this may be a little strange sounding to some, but the Silverado's hood looks a whole lot better when you're behind the wheel. Reminds me of the older trucks.

I vote for the Silverado, but since I just bought one, I guess I'm biased. Oh, I think you have a better shot at getting a Chevy that's not loaded to the gills than you do a GMC.

I've got an 01 Silverado, and I think it looks a little better than the previous models, and tons better than the current models.  I don't think they kept that body style nearly long enough.  If you like the way 01's look, get a used one for hella cheap.  Don't settle with a local dealer either - shop around.  I didn't buy from the 3 closest dealers b/c they couldn't make a deal.  Some dealer out there has a truck for you, and he wants to sell it to you.  :D

You could always special order one exactly the way you want .  However, the GMC base will be slightly higher than the Chevy base because of a few more standard features.  Good luck.

If you want the caddy of trucks buy a GM..........

If you want a rough and tough truck buy a Chevy..........

Long answer

I really like the looks and design features of the GM.  However if they could put the Chevy 02 design headlights on the GMC pickups it would make the perfect truck.  The Headlights on the GMC Pickups look too tall for the truck, the Silverado's are sleeaker in design and blend better with the truck.  As for interior they are close in design however the GMC's just have a nicer ride and are quiter in the cab then the Chevy's.

Just my $.02

Uhhh, I'm fairly sure that there is zero difference in ride and in-cab noise between the two, since the suspension settings, and everything else mechanical, are completely identical.

The only difference here is looks. Personally, I like the Silverado, that's why I bought one.

:D They are all built on the same lines, on the same platforms.  Every third one is a GMC.  The only differences are some trim pieces on the interior and exterior.

True!!  I remember back many years ('70's) ago when I was looking for a new K5 Blazer, the local Chevy dealer had one but it had a GMC Jimmy tailgate on it with the Chevy front grill!! I guess the assembly line took a lunch break right about half way through the truck!??

My parents have 2 1993 GM products........

One is a chevy 6.5Turbo diesel

2nd is a GMC 6.5 Turbo Diesel......

SAME SAME RIGHT????

NOPE..... The GMC is about 1.5X quiter then the chevy and the GMC rides like a caddilac compared to the CHEVY...

Maybe this is just a bad test case

Maybe your Chevy was built on a Friday afternoon, who knows? They are the same truck though. Only reason for a ride difference would be if one truck got ordered with a heavier duty suspension package and the other did not.

oh crap.............  ???

I just remembered............

The chevy has overload springs on it for towing......

Guess that would explain the difference....  Please excuse me while I try to get my foot out of my ass and mouth..........

  You are exactly right. A few more upscale trim items on the GMC is the only difference.
