Hi, my truck as you can read on my signature is a 2004 Yukon XL, 4X4, 2500, 8.1L and it appear to be the truck that i've been loved the most. I have had 3 Suburban before it, first a 1988 3/4, 350 2X4, then a 1993 1/2 full equip, 350 2X4, a 1999 3/4, 2X4 all with G80 axle off course. So, this one is my first 4X4 has you notice and my first BIG BLOCK engine wich i never had even in my car wich i have a lot (camaro, mustang, corvette etc...). Now my truck is begening to rust here and there even if i had some rustproof application over the year.

Now i have two choice, have it repainted or change it ? Repaint it may cost about 4K$ (good job), change it may cost about 65K$ for about the same range of truck with out the big block what so ever.

Has i'm retired and doing about 8 kilometers (5K miles) a year ( the truck has 190K Kilometers (118K miles) and drive strong) i would like to have your comment on my questioning.

I know that its my decision but i would like to have your comment just to see what you think, for me, i may by thinking of a repaint job considering that a have an other vehicule for the summer (Audi A4 convertible) and that is a lot of money for a new truck.

Best regards

Another vote for keeping the vehicle.

Have the paint shop use this product on the undercarriage:

Do not get this product on your hands or any outside paint.

You can make a lot of repairs for $65K.

Mike

You're right but i'm still with an 10 years old truck.

More details on the rust? I hope you mean your going to fix the rust before painting over it. And also remember that if it's rusting through somewhere, it's most likely about to rust through somewhere else. I personally get rid of any vehicle I have that would start to show signs of body rust. Also remember that while you may love your yukon, always remember that they are newer better things out there if your willing to pay

If you just use it mainly for the winter do a quick plug job and then run it into the ground. The salt and calcium will make short work of a body job. I had the same decision to make and figuring on $3000 for fixing rust on a truck that would only bring $3000 on trade didn't make sense.
