LGillingham Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Hi Folks, I recently bought a 2011 2500HD Sierra from a dealer who got it at an auction and unfortunately I didn't get a whole lot of detail from him on the vehicle and I'm wondering if someone can run this VIN number for me. Thanks. 1GT220CG6B2316691
Rogue Leader Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 This will give you some info: http://chevroletforum.com/forum/vindecoder.php The best site is this one though its $5 for 5 reports http://www.compnine.com/vid.php
LGillingham Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 Thanks for the info. I did find the typo in the VIN and tried it on the Chev site noted above and it gave some vehicle specs. I then tried it in the second site for a more comprehensive search but it wouldn't recognize it???
scooby5121 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Here in ontario, you have to buy a sellers package when you sell your vehichle.... You can find who ever owned the vehicle prior by doing this... Mandatory in our province.. Scooby
gmtech4 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 No, the number is correct. No the vin u posted was invalid on gm Canada's site but let's argue about it !!! Good god man lol
LGillingham Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Thank you for your continued ongoing in depth analysis.... I think. The point of my questioning was around the fact that of the two websites provided by Rogue Leader the site http://chevroletforu.../vindecoder.php produced a report of vehicle specs, etc. With this information one might be lead to believe that the VIN was valid. I then tried for the more in depth report of vehicle history (using the same VIN#) through the other site provided http://www.compnine.com/vid.php however the response I got was Sorry, that VIN isn't in the system and I was wondering if someone had an explanation for it other than that the VIN had been entered the incorrectly.
desrtrat Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Sorry, that VIN isn't in the system and I was wondering if someone had an explanation for it other than that the VIN had been entered the incorrectly. does the vin on the windshield match the vin number on the drivers door jam?..it is possible that the vin has been changed by the past owner(s) as stolen, totaled by insurance company..there are also other vin# on the truck that can be found if you know where to look. some were stamped on the fire wall, and some on the frame. see if you can have a local LEO's find/track the vin. MAKE SURE you have all the paper work of the sale with you..you don't need a possession of a stolen vehicle charge against you..vin swapping is very common around here by shady dealers, and private sellers.. good luck
scooby5121 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I ran your vin and it gave me all the specs in the chev forum. What is it exactly you are looking for...
LGillingham Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 The specs provided by the chev forum was part of what I was looking for but I was also hoping to see a history of maintenance/repair so that I had an idea of past issues, if any, with this vehicle. A couple of years ago someone on this forum ran the VIN for my 2003 sierra 2500 and it produced a detailed history of maintenance, repairs, recalls, etc. and locations of service garages. I found this of great benefit to and made reference to it numerous times as issues arose. I guess I was hoping to do the same with the latest purchase.

If that information exists carfax can do that for you, I just bought a truck and carfax had that for it for me.
