Chevrolet Silverado Reaper - GM's answer to Raptor

Ford's F-150 SVT Raptor stands alone as a beastly off-road truck with a bad attitude. There's nothing else like it on the market, and it was about time someone stepped up to compete. Ram offers a Mopar dealer-installed Ram Runner upgrade that's underwhelming compared to the factory SVT deal, and Chevrolet has been missing in action. This mad looking Silverado is actually a joint venture between Lingenfelter Performance and Southern Comfort Automotive, bringing you the angriest angry truck of all — the Reaper, Chevrolet's new rival to Ford's SVT Raptor.

Realistically the Reaper is more akin to the Shelby Raptor — a tuned version of a mass-produced truck. Only in the case of Lingenfelter's concoction, a more thorough tune job that will be available as a conversion kit through select Chevy dealers. It's so heavy, in fact, that its entire face has been mashed into a secret Angry Birds tie-in. And its glued on fenders appear as sturdy as Thailand's political system.

Nevertheless, the Reaper remains more than just some questionable plastic surgery. Its updates include 33-inch off-road tires on 20-inch wheels, LED running lights, a custom gauge pack, Fox racing suspension and a burly Corsa exhaust. You can also opt for a Raptor-esque exterior graphics pack and one of Lingenfelter's superchargers for more POWERRRR. How much more remains to be seen.

We also don't yet know pricing, although I'm sure it will be a sizable jump over the base 2014 Silverado's $25,575; if the Reaper wants to snatch Raptor buyers, it can't go far north of $44,000.

What we love about the Reaper is its plan to challenge Ford's Raptor, something truck fans (and Chevy fans) have been eager to see for some time. However, its polarizing face might not be what bowtie fans envisaged. But if you desire a powerful off-road truck and yet maintain a distaste for the Blue Oval, what choice do you have? There's only so many ways to go flying and crashing in anger outside an iPad.
