If you going to pull get the 6.2. If you looking just for performance, you will see in most cases the 6.2 models are a lot more money with the packages you have to buy to get it. Car and Driver magazine and 0 to 60 numbers. you can look it up, I did before I bought. 6.2 Denali 0 to 60 6.3 1/4 mile 14.8. Chevy 5.3 0-60 6.7 1/4 mile 15.0. Later you may be able to get the 6.2 package for less money, when I bought it was 20,000 . I can and will do a lot of mods for that.

6.3 to 60 is a joke its more like 5.5!!! The 5.3 absolutely does not compare pulling or any kind of performance! The 5.3 is a little better on gas cruising and idling around town, the 6.2 is well worth the money for the upgrade!! With the 6.2 you also get 20" wheels so its not just for 6.2!! You have also gotta tthink about resale value of your truck with 20" wheels so however you wanna look at it.

A famous Nascar driver Once said don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. I was directing people who were interested to two websites that gave performance numbers for both engines in different trucks. They do it for a living. If your getting numbers close too a Camaro and Mustang very good. My Texas package came with 20s and lot a other goodies, but does not offer the 6.2 as of yet. But after doing a lot of research the differnts in performance was not worth the money to me. Im not going to pull with this truck.

More data from TFLT; 0-60 empty, then towing a 5740 lb boat at 5000' elevation:

2014 GMC Sierra CrewCab 4×4 5.3L 9.43 sec 18.91 sec

2014 Chevrolet Silverado CrewCab 4×4 6.2L 7.71 sec 15.10 sec

Magazine articals hardly ever show all the facts like gear ratios and other stuff!! Those magazines have favorites also and dont play apples to apples in most cases! A5.3 with 3.08s is gonna be a turd to 60. 3.42s a little better 3.73s alot but add an LS7 torque curve with a 6.2 and its only 1500-1800 more dollars then that cant be duplicated with mods for 2000$. Its really just what you want but at the start of this thread from your post I know you need a 6.2!!!!! Pay the extra money your always gonna be driving your truck n saying man Iwish Ida got a 6.2. Youtube "0-60 2014 6.2" watch my truck do it in 5.5 and its stock ccsb 4x4 3.73s. Love it

I didn't know Car and Driver and 0 to 60 played favorites to the 5.3, Ill keep that in mind. Some models don't offer the 6.2, when I bought mine on 12/31/13 they only had left over trucks with the 6.2 at around 44000 dollars. My 2014 GMC with the Texas package was discounted to 29000 both before ttl. The dealer had a lot of trucks if any of them had the 6.2 for two grand more I would own it. I do buy for performance, I have and had plenty of performance cars and trucks, it is the deciding factor for me. Going buy the research I did with the money I saved the door is open for a lot of mods, with money left for a rebuild if I blow the warranty. In my drag racing days I witness times vary between same models of cars by as much as a second, it happens. But in my opinion for the money until GM offers the 6.2 in less option model for the performance minded the 5.3 works.

Sorry to hear you didnt have many options available. Niether did I so I waited for 4 months to get what I wanted. 5.3 aint for me. I even extended my wait for some 3.73s I was also meaning the magazines played favorites with car companies as they do biased test and comparisons. They also will take a truck with lower gears that spinns worse and floor it let it spin terribly and call it a day at whatever it does 0-60 in. Then take a less powered truck that wont spin and run same time and post em up together. Not a real test in my opinion but thats just my opinion thats all. A real power test if your gonna spin tires should be a timed test in a 1/4 mile showing mph at end of 1/4 mile which in turn translates into real power. 0-60 test should try to eliminate all tire spin to be accurate as possible. If not possible then its not.

Why would they do that. There test was with a 2 wheel drive 6.2 and 5.3. They also tested 4x4 5.3 the 0to60 was slower than the 2 wheel drive. I got what I wanted for the money. Already working on mods, I been doing this since the 70s, owned race built cars most people dream about.

Ok good luck with your truck I hope you are and stay happy with it!! Not sure why you cant understand what Im trying to say since you been racing since the 70s! Spinning aint winning!! I would hate to know that I had to race my CTSV 575hp against a AWD 450 hp car!! Esp in a 0-60 race! My point is that the 6.2 will blow though first gear where the 5.3 will not! So you can not take off full throttle in the 6.2 as you can in the 5.3. Just as you cant in my CTSV. My caddy runs 7.50 in 1/8mile but motortrend 0-60 is a terrible way of trying to compare how the car really runs!! Thats why you cant pay alot of attn to magazine articals and yes they are VERy biased to car manufactures esp nowadays since GMs buy out! They compare gmc trucks with 3.08s to f150 ecoboost with3.42s even 3.73s at times! This thread was about the real world power of the 6.2 and thats what I feel everyday as Im driving my truck. Until I get in my dads truck which is a 5.3 and then its not there. You should be fine modifying your 5.3 since you been racing since the 70s. BTW I love the color of your truck its the same color as my 700hp procharged SS was. Good luck with your truck

Im also considering a 5.3 but i would like the power of the 6.2. Did you test drive a 6.2?

I've been in the market since January. Drove the 5.3 several times in various rigs and different configurations. I'm glad I waited for the 6.2. The 5.3 was great but the 6.2 is just flat AWESOME. I drove the only 2 I could find in CA ( both happened to be in Nor Cal). The test drives were roughly 3 weeks apart so I would have distinct impressions. The second test drive sealed the deal for me. All the dealers were trying to push me into a 5.3 because they have hundreds but almost no 6.2's. (One of the trucks I drove was a custom order for an overseas buyer who first had to give the dealer consent to my test drive - a nice professional touch BTW.). The 2nd session with the 6.2 was at another dealer and he let me get quite heavy with the pedal but that truck was the wrong cab/bed configuration. They tried hard to get me to bite but I was flat with them and said I was no way going to buy a truck that wasn't exactly what I wanted. 4 days later I ordered my rig with the 6.2 from the first dealer.

You will love the power. Hopefully you will find a dealer willing to really let you try it out.

My custom configured unit is now awaiting production.

Once you go with the 6.2, You will never go back. I have the 3.42 gears and I'm getting 18.5 in the city and 23.3 on the hwy using the old school way of checking.
