Advent OGM-1 and Voice Control (Voice Dialing)

I cannot get my OGM1 to voice dial with my Samsung Galaxy S4. I can pair it and dial and answer calls via the touch pad, but it won't let me voice control the phone. If I hit the microphone soft button on the OGM1, it seems like it starts the voice control on the phone, but it seems like my phone cannot hear any voice commands. It used to work fine with the stock bluetooth. Has anyone else gotten the OGM-1 to be able to voice dial? If so, did you have to do anything special to get it to work?

I have no problems with mine and I don't remember seeing any other complaints about this. Voice commands are a function of the phone itself, not the radio. Go to the bluetooth menu on the OGM-1 and confirm the phone is connected, press the microphone icon on the left side of the display and say your command. It's as simple as that.

 

Everything you said in your post indicates the radio is working normally. Try the phone on another vehicle and test it. If it works on another vehicle and not your's, then give Walt a call. He might be able to help.

Like I said, the phone works. It did with the factory blue tooth. And it does connect via bluetooth to the OGM1 as I am able to make calls but only using the touch screen. When I hit the microphone icon on the left of the display, my phone does go into command mode. I can see it on the phone, but nothing I say is getting to the phone. I have tried "Call XYX on Mobile" and "Hi Galaxy" and a couple others. It seems like the phone just isn't accepting the commands although it looks like it is ready to.

If you can talk on the phone through the OGM-1 microphone, then it's working. Has to be the phone.

Being an iPhone 5 guy, I have no direct knowledge of the S4, but doesn't that phone have a way to be set up to access phone-related voice commands directly rather than dump you into a kind of intermediate voice command mode that allows menu operations and stuff like that?

You are right that it SHOULD be platform independent, but if there is another layer of voice-activated menu getting in the way, then we need to figure out how to deal with it.

Also, I read a review that said the S4 has Samsung "S Voice":

 

S Voice has a new function called S Voice Drive, which will allow S4 owners to operate their phone by voice commands — as long as their car has Bluetooth. S Voice Drive promises to read back text messages, transcribe and send text messages responses, offer turn-by-turn driving directions, rattle off the weather and place a phone call. This all sounds lovely in concept, but we’re weary that its execution will be as bad as S Voice on the S III. Hopefully Samsung proves us wrong, and delivers a solid voice assistant that actually works. Regardless, Samsung’s expansion of S Voice shows us that the company believes that voice-driven interfaces are here to stay, whether we like it or not, and whether they figure out how to make it work or not.

 

Is it possible there is a setting you changed that has to do with "S Voice"?

Yes, my phone has S Voice. I can use it to call by voice directly over the phone. When I press the microphone Icon on the OGM1, it starts S voice. But then it seems to not be able to communicate with the phone. And since I am connected to the phone via bluetooth, the phone will not take my voice commands directly over the phone either. It seems to be looking for the commands to come over bluetooth, but they just don't get there.

 

I just changed a setting on S Voice. I will try it out tomorrow. Thanks for the help Walt.
