285/70/17 Rubbing on 2011 Sierra 1500 4x4

I just put 285/70/17 tires on 17x8 wheels (4.5" backspacing, 0 offset) on my 2011 Sierra 1500 4x4. I've got Bilstein 5100s front and rear, with the front Bilsteins set to their highest setting.

Unfortunately, I have rubbing on the wheel liners when going to full lock on both driver and passenger side.

Anyone have any suggestions? Looking at the wheel liners, it doesn't appear to be a great deal of rubbing.

I'm guessing my problem is that I put on the TreadWright Guard Dog M/T (E) tires, which might be a bit bigger than your average 285/70/17 tire.

The tires measure 33.3" OD with a section width of 11.5".

Wondering if I need wheel spacers (and what size...) or if I need to get a strut extension ... or what.

It's your 0 offset wheels, wheel spacers would only make it worse. 1.5" body lift would help, I wouldn't add a strut spacer with the bilsteins at their highest setting.

I agree 100%. That zero offset is killing you. Get smaller tires, different rims, or do some trimming. It shouldn't take much trimming to fix it.

Thanks. I'm going to trim the liners and see where I'm at.

 

For some reason I swear I saw 285/70/17 working with 4.5" BS and 0 offset, maybe I was imagining it. Or maybe the Guard Dogs are just enough bigger over a standard 285/70/17 that it rubs.

 

Definitely won't be doing a body lift, I'd have to have custom fab work done to put my bumper in the right place.

i know there are some lift kits that allow you to keep your stock wheels. id look into that

Did that last night on the rear of the liners, took care of most of the rub. Noticing some rubbing on the front liner that I need to take care of.

 

Looks like I might need to trim some metal on the rear, not sure yet.

Nah, not going back to stock wheels. Already paid for these.

Trimming metal should fix you right up, worked for me.
