OEM Integrated Brake Controller questions

Maybe I'm just missing something, but the instructions in the owner's manual seem a little off on setting the brake controller. I just got a 2014 Sierra. The manual says to bring the rig to 20-25mph on a level surface and then crank the manual control all the way to the left. Wouldn't that lock the brakes up completely on the trailer? How are you supposed to adjust the gain to your rig? The instructions are very confusing (at least how I read them).

That's pretty much the idea- see if the trailer brakes lock up, and if they do, back off the gain a bit at a time until they don't - you want maximum braking power from the trailer. You'll have to adjust it based upon trailer weight, road conditions (wet), etc. After a few adjustments you'll know pretty much where to start and it'll only take a few seconds to get dialed in.

hey all.
quick question to those with the built in trailer brake controller.
on mine, the + and - sign are lit up but the slider isnt lit up. the stationary one and the one that slides both have a mark on them that goes from top to bottom that looks like where a light is supposed to be coming through, or maybe its just white so it stands out a little..

do yours light up or are those just markings. thanks

no pic. the bottom lights up for the + and the - but the slider does not. could be how its supposed to be. I think my 2010 was the same way.

Remember that your trailer will not have abs. Setting the trailer brakes will result in flat spots - and vibration. You will need a different setting with the trailer loaded vs empty.

Once you've set the brakes a few times on these OEM controllers it takes all of a few seconds too set them.Drive on a level street slide controller till lock up.just back gain off .Try apply the brakes if it does not feel like the trailer is grabbing bump up gain,or if too grabby back off.
