Glass Matt Batteries

How are you guys that have bought AGM batteries making out with them? Any problems with the SERVICE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM being displayed after you installed them? Have you had them long enough to decide if they are worth the extra money. My biggest problem is that I don't use my truck that much. So it sit a lot. This is my 09 Silverado 5.3

Haven't had a problem. Of course check all your cables, connections, grounds and alternator. Have the battery tested. See if you have any stored codes. For long periods of time sitting, best to use a automatic float charger capable of charging AGM batteries

Except in certain cases, I don't think they are worth the extra cash for the the typical setup. I've got one on a Sienna van with a chair lift for family member. It works great for that application, having enough guts to run all the electrical without engine running. It has kept me from needing a separate battery just for the lift.

At our work, we've used them in the past on some trucks but have discovered they perform no better over all than the top of the line lead/acid battery. For the $100 or so difference not worth it, imo

Thanks Txab for jumping in. I appreciate your time and opinion. I am kind of surprised that only one person has an opinion on the AGMs. I had it my mind to buy the lead acid. I have always had good luck with them. I trade in my wife's 10 year old van and it still had the original battery in it. But the AGM was an option. So I was tossing the question out there to see if I could get a better opinion. I talked to my son and he told me to let him know which one I wanted and he would get it for me at good price. I think he said the AGM was only going to cost $21 more than lead acid. My way of thinking when I buy something is to buy what ever is going to eliminate problem down the road.

There will be more opinions soon, I'll bet. For only $21 difference the AGM is fine. Odyssey or Sears Platinum, made by Odyssey, are great batteries. Optimas have lost some of there quality. A member on here that has an auto parts business reports a lot of returns since Optima moved their manufacturing out of the US.

We've been buying Advanced Auto's Gold (lead acid) line and have been having fantastic use from them. They have all lasted through their full rated period

I have a DieHard Platinum in my half-ton. It took a dump after 3 years, Sears replaced it for free.

Couldn't get one for my 3/4-ton Burb, so I got the DH Gold Advanced AGM. It survived the -15° days with no issues.

I'm very likely doing the 2nd battery mod to the 3/4 ton this spring, so I'll be buying another one.

I like mine... I have an Optima which I know many people here don't like but I got a good deal on it and it can't be worse than the 1 year I got out of my last delco replacement.... I had my last optima 10 years In 4 trucks and it still held a charge.
