Well, here's another new guy post.  Me, I'm cosidering a '79 K10 with 60k miles... from several states away from the truck.

I've never owned a 4WD before and, if y'all like to answere new guy questions, I've a ton.  Presently I drive an '89 Toyoyo w/ 144k that sounds like a typewriter, and has had way too many $$$ in it the past 2 years.

P.S.  Is this a good forum for questions about a '79 K10, or mainly a newer truck forum?

Hi and welcome!  The 79 K-10 can be a very good truck if the body is in decent shape.  Are you sure about only 60,000 miles on it?

The only down side to this is that 79 was right in the middle of the smog years and it will not be a real powerhouse and you won't see the mileage your used to getting with your Toy.

Upside: they are simple to work on and parts are still quite plentiful and they have a solid front axle.

Hello Mike,

Per the owner, it's a one owner truck.  He wanted to do "shows" and did a near complete frame off restor. in '95.... no bodo anywhere per our swapped emails.  The owner has sent me lots of detailed photo's and answered about 8-10 emails full of questions.   It's several states away from me.

Umm, what kind of milage?  The truck has a 350/4 bbl, completely stock, w/ 3.07 ( I think) rear end gears.

The Toyoyo only gets about 20 mpg on the highway.

If this should be in another area here, let me know.

Thanks for the replies, but I think I'm leaning towards a "pass" on the '79 Chevy K10. $7,000 is not pocket change for a vehicle. 1500 miles is a long ways off... well I reckon a block away is the same for a used car sale, huh? I think the full time 4WD and the NP203 may be the deal killers. A chain drive on a highway vehicle just doesn't ring right to me. And, I've not really needed 4WD the past 10 years, so why mess w/ the extra maintenance? I know, I'll probably eat those words the next time I go ANYwhere.......

I'm probably risking getting cyber-nuked here, but I'm considering a '75 Ford  F-150     with 51k miles. It's a super cab, 2WD and has A/C. The dealing has just started, and wifey has yet to buy off.....

Thanks again... I'll definately be checking back here.

Troyrobo,  Well the Chevy possibility is still alive.  The Ford owner was not terribly helpful w/ information over the phone... 'reckon we just didn't click.

For some Ford eye candy, here's the auction link, as long as it's still there:

Now, wifey seems bent on my patching the Toyoyo for a couple more years, then our buying a new truck.  I donno... maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but older trucks appeal to me more than new ones.

I generally keep stuff pretty stock, but if I keep this Toyoyo... the tweaking shall begin!  I figure if I'm driving an enclosed skateboard 70+ mph 35 miles/day, then I might as well have fun with it!

Tommy

P.S.  Oh, Mr. SINCITYZ71, what happened to the lower right part of your art-work?
