Oil Filter Leaking?

Recommended Posts

So I was I was going to change the oil in my 2011 Chevrolet Z71 and I noticed the oil filter was covered in oil. I also noticed oil on the bottom of the oil pan. Not a lot, but enough I called a dealer to set up a service appointment to look at it since it's under warranty. So I took it in today and they informed me it was the filter leaking. I am currently running a Wix filter. They said they needed to change the oil to make sure. I told them there was no need, that I could change the oil as I needed to anyway. The service guy I talked to then told me there was also a recall on the truck for the "dipstick" and they needed to change the oil for the recall. Long story short, after waiting 1 1/2 hours, they said the truck is done. So I go to get my keys and they say I owe them for an oil change. I ask why. They said that was not covered under warranty. I said I know, that's why I said they didn't have to do it but I was told there was a recall and "they had to change the oil". The service guy that told me that was no longer there, he had to leave or something. Come to find out, it clearly says on the service receipt "Trans. dipstick replacement". Nothing to do with the oil. Anyway, the guy I am talking to now says they have a lot of trouble with any filter other than a Delco leaking. Is this true?

Had the dipstick recall done on my 2011. It's the tranny dipstick. Oil doesn't have to be changed. They only install a rubber(?) sleeve over the top of the tube. Dealer is trying to make a buck (or a few). I would stay away from this dealer and I'd keep an eye on the leak, just in case their diagnostic skills match their honesty.

You have to always remember, they (the dealer) are only going to do and say things that move sales and make them money, Period. Case in point, they put you on the defensive by blaming the Wix filter and sold you an oil change. They got $ out of you which was their game plan.

the techs get pounded pretty good to by the dealer,,,i lost 9 hrs pay because i didnt do a computor time punch on a warranty cooler line job that killed the tranny ,,,,,,,,leaves a sour taste in your mouth

I had an oil leak on my 13 with 5,000 miles on it. Took it back to the dealer and talked to the service manager cause I know him pretty good and told him to come get me when he got it in the air, come to find out my oil leak came from a lazy @ss oil change boy that didn't tighten the oil filter, the guy that put in the air and checked it out with me is the one I request when go in to get it changed and plus he's the only one that isn't scared to drive my truck with the 35's on it. I got 2 years free service from GM or I would probably do it myself.

My dads truck had the tranny and transfer case replaced under warranty, and luckily I was very curious and laid under the truck to check it out. Well as it turns out the main bolts on the tranny were loose and fluid or oil was leaking. We went back to the dealership and they tightened everything up, and also added the missing inspection covers (round caps).

Another **** up on his truck was after a tire rotation before a 600 mile drive the next day. The tire shop had a faulty air gun that didn't tighten up some lugs on a rear tire. We couldn't feel it while driving around town but luckily some lady driving behind us let us know. We pulled over and retightened every single lug nut. I don't even want to imagine what could have happened with loose wheels on such a long trip.

Double check other peoples work when possible for your own well being and safety.
