Buying OEM Remote Start to non-remote start truck

Recommended Posts

So my Silverado doesn't have remote start from the factory. If I buy the fobs, can I program them to the truck myself, or do I need to give the dealer $100 in labor to do it?

Is all that is needed for purchase is the OEM fobs?

Edit: The link above includes the remote start module. In order for it to work with your truck, you must have the following RPO codes:

AQQ

MYC

UJM

XL7 (may not find this one online, it's basically the US-legal frequencies for keyless entry)

Are you saying you want remote start? If so you'll need to buy a Remote Start Module, not just a key fob. If I recall there was a OEM remote start module on Ebay for around $300. It should be plug and play if your truck has the factory keyless or alarm module. If your truck doesn't have OEM keyless, once again u can buy the module, or go aftermarket for cheaper. I ran a Car Stereo Shop, and we serviced dealers in our area and we did OEM remote keyless, alarms and remote starts A LOT cheaper then thru dealer, and most the time the dealers brought the vehicles to us, then charged triple our price to customer.

So you can ask ur dealer parts guy, or one of the GM online parts places for a price, and check ebay. The good news is the OEM stuff will plug in, even if ur truck doesn't have it installed, u'll just have to figure out where it plugs into at, or find someone to install it for you.

Or aftermarket keyless/alarm with Remote Start.

But I would go to the dealer and ask them to program a remote- it may have the module you never know, Ive found modules in vehicles before, even found a CD Changer that was covered up by a beauty panel.

On my 2008 GMC I took the new truck to my high-end tint (etc...) shop, and had a Viper alarm and auto-start installed..around 500.00 years ago. The remote start and locking had a 1 mile range! It worked very well and had a lifetime warranty. 2 way LCD remote, so much more.

I can't seem to find the remote start module on any site. Also, the GM accessories website only shows the fobs and no modules. If I order the OEM part, does this module done included maybe?

Would you have access on how to install it and where to plug it in? And how would you program it? We discuss in private message if needed.
