2013 3500 Diesel hard shift issues (ok to cross post?)

I posted this in the GMC 3500 Diesel forum but I thought maybe you can also help?

 

We get a huge CLUNK when we are downshifting from around 4 to 3rd gear (going around 60MPH - downshift under hard accelleration). It's an automatic. AND I notice a strong burning smell after around 30 minutes of driving. We brought it to the dealer multiple times and each time they said they "don't feel nuthin" so I'm not very confident about this "diagnosis". It is getting progressively worse. I am planning on bringing it to another dealer but would like some input.

 

We currently have approximately 20k miles on it. It was purchased approximately 2 years ago. We do tow a 35 foot 5th wheel at times (not often - 10 times a year or so) but this hard shift is occurring more often and also when we are NOT towing.

 

If there are other threads dedicated to this issue please share the link and I will read.

Burning smell is BAD news - clutch slippage = lots of heat, and lots of miles off the life of that tranny. I wouldn't use that thing too much if you can help it, until you get a competent service department to look at it.

 

If it wasn't under warranty I'd tell you to find a reputable transmission shop instead of the dealer ... but tranny work is NOT cheap. Find another dealer.

When you took truck in, did you take them for a drive to show them the issue? If they say it is normal, have them show you another truck doing it. Is this the dealer the truck was purchased from? The only reason I ask is that with the price of the truck being so high, the selling dealer may have some interest in keeping you as a customer. And no, it should not be like this.

Where you from. Bring it to a real tranny shop. Dealer will just throw parts without diagnosing properly, if you tell me where you're from I can tell you a good tranny shop to go or talk too. It will be cheaper than dealer too.

Does it still have warranty?

Original post says it is a 2013 model year, and has approx. 20k on it. Pretty much has to be under bumper to bumper warranty still, with powertrain taking over after that.

Ya call gm complaints bring it to a dealer that cares. Fix the problem before you burn up that tranny.
