DPF on 07 Classic?

I have a friend who is trying to sell a pair of 3500 duallys with Duramaxes, so I offered to help her out. One of the trucks is an 05 and the other is an 07 Classic. I was wondering does the 07 Classic style trucks have the DPF system like the regular 07s? I know on the Ford Superdutys, anything that was built with a DPF system was built as an 08 model, even when it was built in early 07, so I didn't know if GM did something similar by only installing the DPF systems on the NBS 07+ diesels, or if they were on everything sold as an 07, including the "Classic" body style.

The 07 classic LBZ's have no DPF

That's awesome news. Whats the difference in the 07 Classic and the 05, besides the 07 having the 6speed and the 05 having 5speed? I only ask because the owner said that the 05 gets 16mpg and her 07 gets like 13mpg. Im sure there is a difference in driving style between her and her late husband, but is there a mechanical difference that would cause that much of a MPG difference. I assume they both have the same gears since they are both duallies.

Now the big question. What should I look for as far as problems that would be typical on a truck like that with 147K miles? I know people say that you can buy a diesel with that kind of mileage and not worry about it, but it still makes me a little leery because all Ive ever owned was gas pickups, and I haven't ever bought one with that kind of mileage on it.

I just want to make sure that I have all of my duck in a row and have all the "normal" wear and tear items checked before purchasing.

Front end should be looked over.

147k...the basic stuff. Front end, brakes tires blah blah blah. Ask if wheel bearings have been changed on te LBZ and water pump.

Look for pump rub on the tcase as well. Don't be afraid of the LLY, they are good engines as well. But I would go for the lbz...

Lbz are harder on fuel than the LLY, higher compression, different head design and the 6 speed is a little looser than the 5 speed. Egr could be clogged up on the lbz too

Is there any way to tell how bad the pump rub might be without actually seeing a hole or cracking the case apart? Are there certain conditions that cause pump rub to be worse, or does it just happen any time you drive the truck? I guess what Im getting at is, are there any indications that might help me determine if this is gonna need to be addressed now, or if it can wait? I know prevention is the best measure, but Im gonna have to find some time to make the upgrade if I pull the trigger on one of these trucks.

BTW, is this a problem on the 1500s, or just the HDs?

What are the miles on the LLY? The LBZ is one of the most desireable duramaxes.. I would want the 6 speed.. My buddy just went from an LLY to an LML and regrets not getting the 6 speed sooner

Have either of these trucks been tuned or modified? If not you may have found a gem

Both trucks have about the same mileage. The 05 has 142K and the 07 has 147K.

No real way of knowing unless you pull it apart, you know it's there for sure. They all do it, most guys just fix it when it starts to form a pinhole. The rear tcase half is pretty cheap to buy as is the pump rub kit, or you could buy it. Save urself a couple hundred bucks pull it split it, spend $200 or whatever it is on the Merchant auto kit and have a fresh tcase. Without pulling it, you cannot prevent it. If it's got holes you'll see it lookin sweaty around the start of the rear snout. Lots of guys get fooled think it's a seal but it's not.

Pretty sure it's common on lots of gmt-800 vehicles. Just worse with the np263hxd I think...not sure. It's not hard to fix and relatively cheap. Get that, straight pipe, egr delete, lift pump/water separator and pcv reroute and keep it on stock or light tuning she will last forever!
