White Diamond Tricoat Residue Issue

its not glue or something sticky...it comes and goes in differ places. That is by the gas cap, sometimes the tailgate and in between the door. Im thinking its dirt getting into the clearcoat? W.e it is its not coming off with soap or water and needs something strong to wipe off.

If it doesn't come off and stay off with claybar, take it to the dealer and tell them it is a paint defect.

Thanks. Do I have to wax after clay bar or no?

Yes, claybar will remove most, if not all, of the wax. Sealants are better than wax. Wax doesn't last, sealants can last six months or more.

I had the same issue on my 2014 Sierra Onyx Black Crew Cab that was built in Mexico. I had this residue on the roof of the cab, side mirrors, and a few spots on the body. I took it back to the dealer and the detailing manager called it "Mexican shipping residue." He told me that after the truck is built, they spray a product over the entire vehicle to protect the paint during shipping on the train from Mexico to the USA. They re-detailed the truck and it has been fine since then. He also let me know that he has seen this residue get on the wheels and it can ruin the rims. I hope this helps. I'd take it back to the dealer if I were you. I live in Central Florida and took delivery of the truck in March.

Thats exactly what it is probably. The Fla trucks are shipped from Mexico and land in Jaxsonville. So they redetailed your truck? What did they do? Because my truck has been detailed and waxed?

Mine had been waxed too and I didn't notice it when I bought it. It wasn't until after handing washing it that I noticed the residue. I don't know what they did to get rid of it but they gave it back to me looking shiny and new with a fresh coat of wax. It was in for 6 hours and they provided a loaner so I didn't have to wait. I'd suggest calling the dealer and asking for the detailing and/or service manager and take it right to them. Since they knew what it was they were apologetic and very accommodating.

Took it to the dealer. I guess it never got a acid wash.

Apparently the trucks are sprayed with a transport adhesive and then when it arrives at port it gets a acid wash. In some cases the port didn't do the acid wash and the original dealer where I bought it confirmed that it was possible because GM was reimbursing his dealership to perform the acid wash. Of course I live no where near this dealer and any other dealer will not do it as it is not a warranty issue. Hopefully I can get the sales rep to reimburse my nearest dealer to do it.

Bogus!

I'm surprised that a local dealer won't remove it under warranty or at the very least work it out with the dealer you purchased it from. It's not your fault it's on there and you shouldn't have to pay to get it removed. Good luck.

Did you opt for the paint sealer when you bought the truck. That may be the problem. It is a dealer option and whok knows if the person that does it knows how to apply it.

i had the White Diamond on my cadillac, beautiful paint but be sure to wash, claybar and wax it and use a good paint sealer, especially before the winter months.

you will notice small orange spots that look like rust freckles on it, they polish off with minimal effort. i dont know if it happens to be some of the flake in the pain that actually rusts or what but when i bougt my cts it had them, i claybared them all off then they returned about a year or 2 later. keep up the wax and its should be fine.

First thing I do with any new vehicle, wash it and then clay bar it, then put a good coat of wax on it.
