Rear Blower 2001 Sub - not working

Hello.

 

The rear blower in my 2001 suburban LT recently stopped working. I notice when I turn on the rear fan control, the blower starts for just an instant 1/2 second or so, and then doesn't run in any speed, with either control (front or rear console).

 

I pulled the two wire connector (purple & black) on the motor. It shows 11.73 volts between the wires, with the blower switch in the "on" position. The three wire connector plug on the resistor (black, orange, small diameter purple wire) shows the same 11.73 volts between the orange and black wires.

 

The controls have an "auto" setting, if that makes a difference.

 

Thoughts?

 

PS: when I ran 12 volts from a 12 volt battery jumper pack, the blower ran fine. Thus, I suspect the problem is in the fan control circuit.

It's a module as well and has to be looked at a little deeper ,

Thanks for the reply. How much deeper? Is it something that will require a dealer visit? Any other items to look at?

Dad and I had a similar issue with our 2000 suburban. The front stopped working in ours as well as the rear and the front just needed a new control switch on the dashboard. The rear was pretty involved to repair. I will talk with him in a bit and post up what he did but I know for sure that we took the entire piece of plastic that covers the wheel well apart and the problem was within there. However ours does not have an auto setting and your problem could very well be in the controls. They tend to go bad. (have had problems with both of our GM ac controls acting up)

Thanks for the thoughts.....My wife called me this AM, reporting that the transmission was failing. It turned out, the transmission had blown a hose or a line and lost all fluid....1/2 mile from the mechanic's house. So, the mechanic fixed the transmission problem, and accurately diagnosed a resistor in the blower. He pulled one out of the salvage yard for the fix. Grand total = $183, which included 6 qts of ATF. I think that was providentially arranged,
