What does YOUR truk really weigh?

I weighed my truck on our certified scales at work right after the company calibrated them.  My truck is an "03 K2500HD Ext-Cab LS, 6.0L, L480E tranny, stainless wheels, bed liner, HD trailering pkg and the rest all factory including the OOR tires.  I weighed with 3/4 tank fuel and myself 205lb.  Weight ticket was 5,960 lb.  That's 5,755 lb "wet" curb weight unladen.  What did you get for a weight on your truck?  My truck weighed much less than I would have thought.

Perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly, but I think mine weighs 5200 pounds without me.  We did a weigh-in at a commercial site that weighs haulers moving wood.

Mine is just a typical 03 Z71 extended cab with the 5.3 motor.

My truck weighs 7200 lbs with full tank, 2001 Chev K3500 CC LT 8.1L ,Ally, dually, nobody in the truck. In my case I wish it weighed less, but I guess it should be strong enough to haul my Bigfoot camper. I found out that it weighs 4000 lbs, when loaded with options water, food and stuff. So even with big ass truck I'm overloaded. I wish the manufacturers gave some more realistic figures. So with two persons in the truck I'm over the 11400 lb GVWR.

I'm not buying a medium duty truck. Besides GM will have to go back to the drawing board and come up with something better looking.

Larry,

You are not using the right calculations.  Your truck is good for almost 12000 lbs total gross weight...  That means you could carry your camper in the bed of the truck and just be a little over the max!!!

What you need to look at is the "combined vehicle weight" which in your case would be approaching the 20,000 lb limit with the dually.

Your truck will haul the crap out of the 4000 lb BigFoot camper and will be several tons within the legal limit of your capacity.  In all actuallity you could haul that camper behind a Z71 1500 series and you would be legal.

However you will appreciate the power of the 8.1L and the stabillity of the Dually beyond all comprehension.  You will have a very easy tow with that combo!!!

Larry,

I just reread your post....  If you are saying that your camper is a "truck" camper (the kind that goes in the bed), then you are correct in your calculations.  I'm sorry if I misunderstood...

During work time for the past 4 months the truck has weighted 8500lbs.  That might have something to do with 130 gallons of #2 diesel, tool boxes full of tools, Miller welder, set of torches.

Shaners,

Sorry I used the wrong word. I carry the camper on the back of the truck. It is a slide-in truck camper. I thought however that my GVWR is 11400 not 12000.

I'm happy with the truck other than it does use oil when it works harder.  At higher speeds (65 mph) or head wind and with the camper (4000lbs) on and horse trailer (5000 lbs)  behind.

regards,

Larry.

Shaners,

Hahaha, I guess I was too quick to respond to your comment. I just read your second note. Life is Good!

Thanks.  We had an even prettier 2001 1500 LT, but needed more horses for our 5th-wheel RV.  "Pretty is as pretty does!"
