Root cause would be nice to know; but, a couple of comments and questions. The Active noise cancellation (ANC) system is only operative at certain RPMs. The suggestion of changing gears would change RPM and hence the active noise cancellation (which can, and will, place pressure on your ears). It is possible (but I haven't asked that question) that Active Noise Cancellation behaves differently in 4 cyl. mode. If the problem is related to Active Noise Cancellation, that would possibly explain the differences observed between 4 and 8 cyl. modes. If there is a fault in the wiring of the microphones or in the microphones used in the Active Noise Cancellation, that could very clearly result in the sensation you're experiencing (ie, if Mic A is wired into Mic B's input, then the phase calculations would be wrong.) QUESTION to any of you who've experienced this problem: do you have 4-wheel/AWD? Have any of you installed the "under body shield". Have any of you attempted to record the noise/pressure?

While the roof sheet metal may have been improperly installed at the factory, the sensations and effects noted by those with the problem, in all probability that sheet metal wouldn't have the surface area and freedom of movement to create what you're all saying you are experiencing. That being said, there is one case where it was mentioned ANC had been turned off. That would screw the pooch on some of my speculation. On the other hand, I'd like to know just how the ANC was turned off...there is not a consumer control for that and the only truly effective way is to remove the wiring from the speaker driver used for the ANC function.

This may help all suffering from the buffeting sound/feel. My truck was with a GM engineer for weeks. I learned today a possible resolution may be replacing the stock shocks and replacing them with NEW/DIFFERENT shocks as well as road force balancing the tires to a particular setting (I am not a car guy and have no idea what that means).

Having said that, I did not drive the vehicle to verify it solved the problem (I no longer own it). Before you have your truck torn apart, ask your service manager to contact a field engineer and see if they know which shocks they are now using in their effort to solve the problem. It sounds promising...hope this helps someone.

That sound very intrusting what dealer is you Yukon at?

I know Field service tech’s have different areas would be good to know what tech to contact if info is slow getting back to GM.

Thanks for staying with the cause.

Thanks

That does add an interesting dimension to it. With low profile tires, road force balancing is important for a smooth ride. Jason were you running on 22", 20" or 18" tires? BTW, changing shocks wouldn't solve the pressure to the ears problem. It does seem however that GM is still pretty much guessing on the problem/solution formula.

I'm just outside of Buffalo, NY. My Denali had 22's but they used all different size rims and different tires for the testing of my vehicle. Perhaps you can find out the engineer is based on location. I do not know his name as I never met him.

A couple of things I learned:

1. They did the roof service bulletin work and it did not solve the problem. They did notice the sheet metal was not attached, but did not cure the pressure.

2. Changed out shocks and road forced balanced tires and they claimed it did. A particular psi range appeared to help the buffeting.

3. I did not drive the truck after they tried the new settings. I cannot verify it actually worked. I tried to hunt the vehicle down to drive it, but it was off the lot.

4. Please keep mind, I am just reporting what I was told. I am not a mechanic. I never had a chance to verify it worked. I am just hopeful you can use this information to prevent your truck from being torn apart for no reason. See if your dealership can contact some engineers and see if they are documenting what is going on in the field with the shocks.

That's all I have...I have emptied my brain on everything I learned. Keep me posted on how it goes out there.

I couldn't read through all this as my a.d.d. kicked in. I was going to sayi have a deep humming sound that sounds and feels like pressure but I noticed the annoying sound comes on when car kicks in to 4 cyl from 8. Is that what we are taking about here?

"road force balancing" what a bunch of hewie ! I've owned ALOT of cars over the last 30+ years. The 2007 Suburban, And 09 Escalade we owned didn't have this sound problem. The Lad had 20, 22, & 24" wheels at different times , NEVER had road force balancing and didn't have this problems.

Our 15 is in the shop right now, been there a week now. BAD DEAL, wife wants her car back. I don't want them to start ripping the head liner out. This shop didn't even know of this problem. Or so they say. REALLY pissed over the whole E85 BS. They say our Yukon is not capable to run this fuel, even though its in all the GM information that it it ??

Was looking on Cars.com for a replacement for this Yukon, has anyone noticed how many 2015 Yukons are forsale? Never have seen this many of a brand new model forsale this soon.

Just figured I'd chime in - ordered my Yukon XL in late August from the factory. It went into production mid September and arrived a week or so ago. I have not experienced any of the issues mentioned in the thread. I'm impressed with build quality, as a previous owner of a Mercedes GL 450. It's among the nicest cars we've owned as a family.

GM customer care responce.

Hello ,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I did read the email that you sent to your local dealership. Did the dealership contact you regarding the email? Are you experiencing an issue with your vehicle?

Regards,

Jennifer T.

GM Customer Care

GM Customer care??????????

Why does GM even support your group?? Total waste of money

I forwarded you the letter I had sent to the dealer with the questions attached. I had asked you GM customer care to find some answers!

You then reply have I heard anything from the dealer and do I have any issues with the Yukon REALLY.

They haven’t even delivered it to the dealer yet so much for being on top of anything.

Spare us your BS and spend the money on R & D rather than a group of story writers.

GM should be ashamed of them selves with the way they are handling this issue.

Good fix fire the R&D and Customer care group. And start over.

I didn’t even get the vehicle yet and I am feed up with just trying to get an honest answer.

Or any answer, yes?

Among the fundamental issues is we are not customers of General Motors. We are customers of the Dealer, who, in turn, is the customer of GM operating under some rather strict constraints. So basically, if you have a problem with your vehicle, GM tosses the problem over the transom to the Dealer to resolve...even if that problem was caused by or is the fault of GM! You'd think that might work but since there is a real serious failure to communicate (equally) to the dealer community, the dealer is handcuffed. The dealer's ability to work through the issues with GM will be directly related to dealer size and volume. If you live in a small market, you're effectively toast. All GM CAC can do is say "sorry" or "apologize" (they really aren't sorry...it's their job to say that) and as quickly as possible dump it off on someone else (like the dealer). Follow up? Nah ... unless you contact CAC again. And again. And again. I think they learned this from the airlines ... if you drag it out long enough the flight will depart...problem solved. CAC doesn't call back. You can send emails. You can call and leave voice mail and never get a response (and if you do it is "sorry") and never get forward progress. If you do actually speak with someone (or with the GM Regional employee with the dealer), what happens at the end of the conversation? "hey...it was that guy again [laughter]". Don't think so? I witnessed and overheard just exactly that. Poor sod just trying to resolve an issue he was promised would be resolved. I guess they didn't tell him how many years that would take, nor that the regional, district and dealer personnel view it as a joke.

You guys dont know me from a hole in the wall, but I have been waiting for many months to order my wife a Yukon XL (cash saved and ready to buy). We figured it might be a good idea to rent one for a week or so to make sure that it was exactly what she wanted as I am not too keen on spending $60K+ on a paperweight. She has been driving an excursion for 12 years and is (was) excited. At about 30 MPH it made us a bit dizzy with the reverberating noise in the cab constantly searching for that open window that never was. Our newborn would cry for no apparent reason as it seemed similar to not being able to clear your ears when flying in a plane. The suburban had only 3000 miles on it so we figured it might just a lemon and returned it to the rental place for another. We didnt make it 200 yards out from the rental yard to experience the identical sensation in another suburban with only 300 miles on it. One had a sunroof the other did not. We are cancelling the order tomorrow and I am sure we will get the run around from the dealer but I do not trust that they (GM) will go to bat for me when the time arises, should our ordered unit have the same issues. We then rented a new Expedition and that drove like a walmart shopping cart but thats another discussion. At least we could drive a mile without headaches and dizziness. Come on GM, I will order when you promise me a fix on this issue. Its a deal breaker and I feel for the folks that have already purchased. In the meantime, The old Excursion chugs on and I earn that extra nickel a month on my savings account. Then again, I unfortunately doubt GM values my little contribution to the bottom line. Waiting for answers..

You are so smart for renting one FIRST. That's a great idea before throwing this kind of money for a vehicle that was not ready to be released yet. Our 2015 Yukon is still in the shop (2nd week) for the list of things that are not right with it. We were in a 2014 Yukon XL as our loaner car. Took it back, for I wanted to see if another 2015 makes the same noise. IT DOES,( 2014 did not) from 30-50 MPH.

This whole thing has done nothing but cause stress and arguments between my wife and I. She can't hear it, or doesn't want to admit to it ?? She keeps asking when she's getting her car back. I refuse to pay or keep a 65,000.00 vehicle that is so wrong, and makes my head pound in minutes.

Really a bad deal all the way around ! This was to be something nice for my family, and has done nothing but waste time, money, and induce agreements.

Well I reckon it was $350 well spent on the rental. I feel for ya, TOBTEK. It is just a shame that the quality doesn't seem the be there. It is a nice vehicle but I don't think they took the time they needed to get the bugs out. I guess it is a little shocking to me to think that in 2015 in the USA that a roof of a vehicle is not remaining attached to the cross members. Now it sounds like it is more than that as well. I don't have the answers but I think they have focused so hard on technology and the "wow" factor of these and many other vehicles that the basics of structural integrity have been ignored. I drive 30K miles a year on hard dirt roads with lots of washboard. If a rental can't make it to the 3K mile mark without the roof staying attached, I fear what it would look like down the road. I hope they make it right for you (TOBTEK), let me know how it goes. All the Best.

    • Thanks JR that would be great if you could do that !!! Do you have a link to where this was discussed before ? I cant seem to find it  Thank You Again !
    • Oil pump noise was discussed before.  I will try to remember to record a remote start later this morning.
    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
    • On my wife's 2020 Blazer (~69000 miles), we started to notice the brakes pulsating at faster speeds. Typically around town you don't notice anything, but highway/interstate driving you will notice it. I decided to pull of the front tires and look at the brakes. I figured with the milage, the pads should be wearing out to their life span, but they actually looked decent. Still with "meat" on them. One pad has a ridge wearing in it, and that same rotor is showing the ridge too. That's not the concerning part...the other rotor appears to have a raised bump on it!  The picture make it look like a pimple! Very odd and strange! NOTE: These are the factory brakes and rotors.   I'm attaching pictures of the front brakes and what they look like ate ~69000 miles.
    • 2024 Chevrolet 2500 HD Custom 6.6 Gas Canadian built Truck  I tried to search for my previous thread on this topic but cant find it so my apoligies  for starting another one    #1   Since we have owned our truck purchased new it has this strange noise after using the remote start function  you press the remote start and you hear it start but right at the end of it starting it almost seems like it wants to start again after the truck is running .   There is no gap in time it is right at the end of the start . Almost sounds like when you have started a car/truck and its running and then you try and start it again and you get that grinding noise ,sort of     #2  You can only hear this if you are standing outside of the truck and near the truck  you cant hear it when you start the truck from inside  the cab . So it may very well be happening when starting the truck that way as in normally    #3   This only happens when it is started after sitting . For how long I don't know but it happens after sitting overnight for sure and it wont do it if you stop the engine after starting and then start it again  I have had it in to the Dealership before concerning this but they did not have the truck  when it was cold to hear it . Now its back in the Dealership left it overnight so they could possibly hear the problem . They said they tried and nothing happened . Well they did not know what they were listening for . I started the truck remotely and BINGO it makes the noise . Oh that sounds weird they say . We need to look into it ! I have left for this week at the Dealership    Does your 2024 2500 HD gas do this ?  Any of you fellas care to take the time and trouble to film this operation from a cold start  so I can hear what your sound like  Really  would like to know if this is anormal sound  Thank You Fellas !!
