Random switch to 4wd Problem

Does anyone have the issue of the transfer case randomly switching to 4wd whenever it wants while in 2HI? It has happened to me 4 times while turning left going about 10mph. Bad transfer case switch?

Could it be related to the transfer case recall? Is yours on the recall list? They are reprograming the transfer case module on some trucks because of unwanted shift to netural on the transfer case. Just doing it turning left might be another issue. I'm supposed to take mine in for the recall, although I haven't had any trouble with it.

Yes mine was on the recall list and I had it done 2 days ago. Did it before and after the recall. It still lights up on the switch as 2HI but it is hard to steer and you can tell 4wd has been activated. Drive for 30 more seconds and can feel it click back to 2HI. Very odd

I would get it back to dealer as soon as you can. Can't be good for it.

I've read somewhere that you should engage 4wd at least once a month for proper functionality of electronics.

Brandon,

Are you sure it isn't the auto locking rear differential? That makes it lock up like a posi, and feels different turning, especially on pavement.

Mine done it once when I had wheel slip in a touchless car wash wet metal ramp. When I got out on the dry pavement, you could really feel it when turning. In the dirt or snow, it's not as noticeable.

@Ventilator. Hmm I never thought of that. Now that you mention it, it can be felt in the rear end. What would cause the rear diff to lock up on dry pavement?

All 4wd trucks are on the recall list I believe. I haven't had mine done but 5 k on my truck now and no issues yet.
