Preserve radio presets when battery disconnected

Recommended Posts

Doing a Google search on 'preserve radio presets when battery disconnected' displays a lot of links, but checking those that relate to new vehicles seem to support using a second battery with jumper cables connected to the vehicle battery cables and the 'jumper' battery and then remove the existing battery cables and install the new battery. However, my dealer says they will not do this :-(

Read the search results to find out why the inexpensive 9V 'battery saver' and other methods will not work. It seems disconnecting the vehicle battery can be a pain.

A 9/12V battery clipped into the main bus prior to removing the battery will accomplish your goal. I haven't tested this, but does the radio really lose it's settings? I assume the settings are stored in non-volatile ram.

Won't loose presets on battery disconnect. Haven't for years. Only loose time.

Presets are safe for a disconnect, but I lost all of mine last week when it went to the dealer for service. They applied an update to the radio to try and address some reception issues I have and it wiped the slate clean.
