03 Silverado 1500 Transfer case motor

Hi, first posting. I have tried to replace the transfer case motor on my Silverado but the shift shaft is not aligning with the new motor. It is not aligning with the old motor either! Any suggestions? It was in 4wd lo when I removed it. The new motor is in 2wD from the factory.

Take a pair of pliers and turn the transfer case shaft, without scratching it.

I have ruined 2 pair of vise grips trying that. It moved maybe a 1/4 inch and now when I try it the shaft just springs back at me. I have the motor with the star shaped shaft not the one with the flat sides on it.

Is the trucks sitting on jackstanks so all 4 wheels are in the air? Have to take the pressure off the driveline. I did this numerous times on a lift in the past. Never had trouble turning shaft.

Just the rear wheels on stands. I removed the front drive shaft to the transfer case to remove the motor. I have the transmission in neutral but it is still really hard to turn.
