MapQuest

I had to take a trip to Pittsburgh Saturday night, so I printed out direction from my house to my destination on MapQuest.  I followed the directions as they were printed (although I could've gotten close without them).

Here is what I found out...

Mapquest said it 69.1 miles each way.  Therefore 138.2 miles round trip.

My trip odometer in the truck said I went 118.5 miles.

That is a difference of 19.7 miles, or roughly 14%.

I realize I have one size larger tires on my truck (245's vs 265's), but I can't believe they would throw off my odometer by 14%.  I thought it was exactly 60 miles to the stadiums from my house and I went about 5 miles beyond that (maybe not quite that far).  So that would 65 miles one way or 130 round trip which is off about 9% from my 118.5 miles traveled.

Has anyone else found descrepencies in milage when using MapQuest?  Or is my odometer really that far off?

Generally the directions are pretty good from mapquest and yahoo maps. I wouldn't hold too much credibility in the distance though.

I've never gotten directions from mapquest where they weren't too long on distance and time.  The directions are always good, but the distance and estimated time are always longer than they really are.

I'm sure you're bigger tires may have it off a LITTLE, but not that much.  The main problem is just with mapquests estimations.  So don't worry.

I use mapquest often and have been impressed with the mileage.  The estimates on driving time is a joke.  Myrtle Beach SC from home was 431 miles and mapquest said 433.

mapquest sucks.  Everytime i use it it gives me the LONG way.  I have found it very inaccurate.  It has even given me wrong directions   (had me get off at the wrong exit)

Yeah I have had the same problem.  Gave up on using Mapquest for directions.  It always give crappy distance estimates, and has always given the long way.  I just use it to get an idea where I am going and figure it as I go...much quicker that way.

I have been pretty satisfied with Mapquest directions and maps.  The mileage/travel time has been off though.

Mapquest claims the distance from my work to the Quail Club is 50+ miles/110 minutes.  The trip is around 30 miles and 40 minutes.  There are a lot of little 25-40mph zones that I don't COMPLETELY ignore, but I cant imagine that big of a difference.
