Who here has a truck/tool box in the bed? What Brand? What do you like or dislike? I'll start.

Kobalt low profile black diamond plate with premium handles.

+ I think it looks great

+ I can stand/sit/kneel on it to wash/dry/wax roof ( I'm 6'0" 250ish )

+ Everything stays dry, latched tight

+ open from either side

- Had to adjust the latches slightly to get a real tight seal

- worried about scratches and dents

I have a textured black (not the shiny) diamond plate box from Tractors Supply. I took it off of my old truck and it still looks great after a couple of years. I also added an Access toolbox tonneau so I have a toolbox and a covered bed. I tow a camper so the toolbox is a great place to keep my WDH dry and locked up.

Does it still form a good seal against the toolbox? Keep going back and forth on this combo or an in bed toolbox and full tonneau.

It does seal up nicely to the toolbox. I added some black silicone (optional). I did add extra weather strip where the toolbox meets the front of the truck bed. Very happy so far with this setup. The access cover is NICE. I have never had a tonneau, and I was concerned about,it being flimsy, but it is built solid, and hopefully should last a long time.

Thanks. Was hoping to hear that.

DJayx - That is the toolbox I've been contemplating. Was it quick and was for the latch adjustment? If I go the in bed box, I am looking at a DeeZee box.

Not a 2014, but for an idea of longevity my pickup had an Access soft cover when I got it. It's been 3 years since then, and who knows how long the cover was on before that, still in great shape. Not sure how I got along on road trips before.

I have the low profile Kobalt made by better built and I also have one of their side boxes. Can't complain much for what they cost. Diamond plate is much thinner than the old weatherguards I had on my Dodge, but price was right. I weigh about 240 pounds and stand on the cross bed tool box on average 6-10 times each week to load and unload my kayaks with no problems so far.

My crossbed low profile toolbox sits about as high as a full depth one because I custom made some brackets out of aluminum and diamondplate to fit over my tracrac.

Have you considered using one of the small side boxes in the normal location? That's what I'm using and it has a minimal impact on space while having a surprising amount of room, I have all the tools I could reasonably want/need on the road and them some. And I also have some space on either side for misc items, and its shorter than the bed rails so its relatively invisible.

Which one? I was at one point looking at the Undercover swing case. I don't need to put much in the back, just nice to keep the cab clean.

The kobalt side box is pretty decent for the money. But how would you secure it from theft if you just put it where a crossbed box would go? Are you talking about putting it under a tonneu cover?
