WOO HOOO...they finally heard the knock

The dealer finally heard the intermittent engine knock.....tore the thing down, and cannot find the problem. TAC Case opened with GM. I'd hate to think they would put it back together and put it back in the truck.....I suggested (for what it's worth), a long block may be in order, they can take this one back to play with.

Tried to upload a vid from Photobucket....won't take. Needed a truck for weekend chores, Enterprise doesn't have any Silverados available....service manager gave me his new Silverado LTZ to use, so far, I like.

Engineer from GM coming in Monday to inspect. If they don't drop a new motor in it, I'm not going to be comfortable....especially towing the camper with the Wife and pup.....don't want to get stranded.....as a matter of fact, since this knock appeared, we stayed close to home and didn't do our usual (for the past 18 years) trip to Cape Cod, and Vermont

With all of the chatter on the various forums and with the recalls you'd think they wouldn't have to bring in an engineer to check everything out for you. I hope you get your new block!

Well, the GM Engineer looked at the motor, and said they didn't like the way the #8 Piston felt in the cylinder, so they are ordering, and replacing the #8 Piston.....the engineer feels that when the engine warms up, it may create a knock. I talked to the service writer, and explained to him that it happens hot / cold, didn't matter, it was that random.....he sez "I know, we'll see what happens", I told him that not to drag them down, but if I hear one single noise from this motor, I've got everything documented, all conversations, vids of the knock shortly after getting it back, and all associated paper work....this is the fourth, and final time in the shop, I will be applying for Lemon Law on the grounds of devaluation of the truck, and lack of reliability. Just don't have any faith in this repair, and this has been going on too long.

that is total bs....i would not feel comfortable with most of the "technicians" out there doing a rebuild. and for the people on here who are tech's, don't get offended, just a pretty good generalization. beer belly where do u live that they brought an engineer in??? i live in a city that makes makes engines, and they never uttered those words to me, when they replaced mine under warranty!!

I'm in Southwestern corner of Connecticut. I'm not happy about this, but I gotta remember, it's a lease....a lease that I'm likely to buy out, and most importantly, a 100,000 mile warranty.....but it will not go back if the knock occurs, I'll apply for Lemon Law, and see where we land. I feel the same about having the motor opened up, but then again, there is the warranty to fall back on.

Got the truck back 5 days ago.....so far, no knock....and I would have likely heard something by now, so this may be the fix, I just hope everything else went back together the way it should have.....fingers crossed. I did contact the dealer to try and get me out of this truck....they were working on a new truck, employee pricing, $2,000 equity in my lease, absolutely no profit on their end, and came up with a payment $40 a month more....not bad, but were gonna stick with this one for now.
