Advice for new tires

Howdy! Installing a RC 2" level today to help get me some more clearance for off roading.

 

Currently I have wrangler 265/60/17 which is a decent looking tire and may not look to bad with the level, but I have a buddy who needs new tires so I would sell him these and get myself some new ones. I need some advice on a tire that will be decent off road, but quiet (doesn't have to be silent) on the highway and won't kill my gas mileage (no more than 1MPG loss). the BFG A/T's just weigh too much IMO and will kill the MPG's I think. let me know your thoughts please.

When you get done with the install would you mind snapping a pic with stock tires? Im about to order my kit but on the fence about buying a new set of tires right now until these are wore out.

My wife's vehicle has Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs and I like them so far. They aren't very much louder than the all-season tires that were on there before and the mileage hasn't dropped noticeably (even loggin mpg using fuelly.com). I would also recommend Nitto Tires but I've never personally used any of their all-terrains.

I would say its between the Toyo AT2's and the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I believe my rim size is 17, I will have to check when I get the truck back. Ill snap some before and after shots. Looking like a 265/70/17 maybe? I cant find 275 with the 17" rim...

You will not gain any mileage advantage from one a/t tire to the next imo. I go by how they perform and how they last and it's the reason why I have had nothing but bfg ko tires for the last 2 decades on my trucks! Not only that they are by a far far far margin the best looking tire on the market, they instantly increase the looks of any vehicle they are mounted on!

For all terrain, all seasons the toyo AT 2 and wrangler duratracs are a great option. I have the duratracs in a 275/60r20 and i hardly hear them on the road. I didn't notice an MPG loss when i put them on but i won't guarantee you won't.

I agree about the BFG's, I don't think there's ever been close to another tire that I've had complete confidence in like those. Great off-road, mud/snow tire. That being said though it also feels like they started getting really proud of them several years ago and price went up a lot. I also never got more than around 30-35k miles out of a set.
Great tires but quite a bit more expensive than anything else now it seems.

 

I haven't tried the Toyo AT2 yet but had the AT ("1" I guess it would be) and liked them quite a bit. very quiet and smooth on-road. Not as aggressive off-road but still handled places like the White Rim trail with no problem. Wasn't super impressed with their snow/ice performance but not bad. Seemed like I had to use 4wd more after getting them.

 

I would also check out the Michelin AT's and the Bridgestone Revo's are pretty popular around here. Surprised to hear the Duratrac's are quiet on-road, look pretty aggressive.

I have the rugged terrains on my truck, go off road about twice a month, highway driving the rest of the time... no change in gas mileage or anything... semi quiet on the highway ( a lil hum ) but not bad.
