question from a newbie on level & tires

I hope I didn't get ahead of myself. I want to start out by saying I don't tow anything. I just purchased a set of rims and tires for my 5.3 with 3:08 rear end.

I currently have the factory 18's (265/65/18) and I purchased a set of factory All-terrain 20's (275/55/20).

I have an appointment for Friday morning to have a 2.25" level kit installed. I was hoping to level it and put a larger tire on. I am mixed about a tire size. I am reading people are running 285/55/20 , 295/55/20 / 33x12.50/20 etc.. I realize I will take a hit in MPG.

With having the 3:08 rear end.... I am scared to just neuter the truck. Is this all doable? -Thank you!

Going taller and/or wider with tires, you could notice some decrease in acceleration and MPG. My suggestion would be to go to tirerack.com or some other mfg. website, and see what the tires you are considering weigh, vs. what the tires you currently have weigh. The "LT" series tires weigh about 10 lbs more apiece over the stock tires. The "P" series tires will be closer to the stock tire weight. If you stay under 34" in height and keep the tire weight close to stock, you shouldn't notice much penalty in MPG or acceleration. Bringing the nose of the truck up into the windstream more with your lift, will penalize you for 1 or 2 mpg on the highway.
